I need to get some sneakers so I can play in a faculty/student Ultimate Frisbee game. I really don't wear sneakers; I'm always in boots or dress shoes.
I could use some sneaker suggestions. Here are my preferences: Not expensive Not all chromed out to look like I want to pick up a game of street ball (think: Jordans) Not goofy looking like what old guys wear (orthopedic; Velcro etc.) Is there any hope?

I personally like Asics Gel. They are super comfy, some are a little too flashy and they are not the cheapest shoe out there. All too many people wonder why their back hurts all of the time then you look at the shoes they wear and there is no question as to what the issue is. There is a lot of back related issues in wearing cheap, non- structural shoes. Hell I bet you would spend more on a Ratchet than you would a pair of shoes (all of us have =) ) but think about the longevity of your body and back. You only get one so treat it right.
I wear these especially working in the shop standing on Concrete all day. It helps with fatigue immensely... http://www.asicsamerica.com/footwear...18-t200n-mens/ They have them in Black too. What you should do is go try a pair on and walk around the block in them. Or a long trip around the store. Hate to say it but ya gotta go SHOE SHOPPING!!! Try on different brands too if your feet don't feel comfortable in them don't bother. Asics, Saucony, New Balance just to name a few are good shoes.

New balance 475's are my favorite. USA made and a good quality. You can get them for $50.00 most days I wear them 8 hours a day till they fall apart.

New Balance sells shoes in wide sizes, if you need that. Personally I like Adidas Stan Smith shoes - they look normal and I find them very comfortable. They come in white or black; the Footlocker website says they are normally $60 but they have the black ones on sale for $35 right now.
![]() The old classic canvas tennis shoe is the Converse Chuck Taylor, they go for around $32. ![]() If you have a Marshall's department store nearby, they usually have a decent assortment of athletic shoes at discount prices. I checked their website and there are a bunch of stores in Massachusetts. Last edited by Stuart in MN; 05-14-2012 at 06:16 PM. |

I may have to try the new balance; I always wear Skechers and I'm very happy with them. I can usually find them on sale for $30-40.

Another vote for New Balance.
The "made in the USA" models are pretty pricey. But, the "assembled in the USA" shoes are the same price as their imported counterparts. It may not do as much for the US economy, but it's better than nothing, IMO. My local JC Penny, Sears and Kohl's all have assembled in the US shoes. You need to go to a place where all the stock is on the floor, like the places I just mentioned. The USA shoes will have a picture of an American flag on the box. Often, these places will have a mix of USA assembled and imported shoes. Often, they even have USA and imported versions of the same shoe on the shelf. If you go to a place where the stock is in the back, you'll have to try to explain to the worker what you're looking for, which would be a PITA. Last edited by stephen9666; 05-14-2012 at 06:08 PM. |

I have been wearing various Asics "gels" for many years now , they seem to fit me the best and I am usually able to find a pair that isn't too flashy and that has gone out of production for significantly less money than the new models .

I'll also echo support for New Balance. They're the only athletic shoes I've purchased for years. Partly because they still have some domestic manufacturing but mainly because they last, are comfortable and look good.
I just bought these a few months ago and they are supremely comfortable. More for walking though. http://www.zappos.com/new-balance-mw646-black-grey

New Balance, Asics, or Saucony. All good sneakers without the extra "hype/bling"
This thread reminded me of this SNL skit... http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-li...m-jeans/229048 |

I've seen a few people in cowboy boots and shorts, it takes fashion to a whole different level.

The Marine Corps issued me New Balance "go fasters" and I have been wearing them ever since. They are the best athletic shoe on the market.
