Default Tool box tip

Today my tool box tipped over. What a nightmare, had to re organize everything took over two hours.

Thankfully there was not any damage, one of the sliders came out but I manage to find all of the ball bearings and put it backtogether.

Its a Craftsman ball bearing 3 tier.

This happen to anyone before? Just cleaning up my tools and wasnt paying attention to how many draws were opened.

Lesson learned, could of be alot more expensive.

Glad you or someone else did not get hurt. I have wondered about my tall craftsman box too. I try to keep drawers shut on it. My dad likes to leave them all hanging open!

My father in laws snap-on bottom box tipped over one time. One of those big assed long ones. The two of us together could not stand it up. He ended up using a wench throgh the garage window to set it up! What a dumb ass for keeping every drawer open!

The tech next to me said once about how I leave a lot of drawers open. I just said thats how I work. The floor slants just slightly that drawers could slowly drift open. The next night picking up my socket drawer and my lower heavy drawer are open, must have been enough, not one lock and roll was caught, they all started and over she came, I don't know how I caught and held a KRL 1022, but I kept her at about a 60 degree angle until a couple guys rushed over to tip her back. One slide got messed up that Snappy warrantied. That was six years ago, I only open on drawer at a time and never walk away with a drawer open. Boy I felt dumb.

my snap on fell over when a noob set a 80lb drive shaft on a fully extended drawer. Really messed her up. He said it was my fault the my box was so crappy. He said he would pay the damages but ended up getting cut before 2 weeks i never saw a dime. i felt like i totaled my first car. so sad. I wanted to punch him out so bad. but management appreciated that i didnt.

I might add locking the drawers when moving it around. They can all open up on an uneven floor. I was lucky that I wasn't hurt when it tipped.

WhenIi was employed at anauto repair shop years ago, we had this general service kid. Mounted tires, did oil changes, and kept the place clean. A little weird but a nice kid.

He deceides one day, while the techs were out on lunch, that he was going to clean the back wall of the shop. Why? I have no clue. So he proceeds to move everyones box off the back wall. Everything was going good until he got to the lead tech's big Macsimiser. The drawers werent locked an when he moved it, all the drawers flew open. CRASH!! It was ugly. You had to see the look on the tech's face when he came back from lunch.

We got the box back up and the whole box was racked. I thought the kid was going to get his ass beat.

Moral of the story- Never touch another man's toolbox...ever.

Yikes - Today my sons HORSE tipped!

(Seriously - he's 8 and was riding a good-sized horse who must have either had a stomach ache or was real itchy. He got down on his knees, then started to roll over! Lucky my boy was quick to scamper out of the way or he would have gotten at least a leg caught!)

I picked this box and tools out for a buddy last month from the craigslist listings. Everything was perfect and like new. On Saturday of Memorial day weekend he went and picked it up alone with his stake bed and lift gate. The seller helped him get it on the gate. When he got home he lowered the gate and full box onto his driveway. Those big lift gates drop level until the hinge arms hit the ground. Then the platform will tilt a bit to present the smallest lip possible to the loading side.
Turns out that few degrees of tilt is all is takes to lose a full box. My friend tried to save it but it fell on him and pinned him to the driveway. He called me for help and I got there in about 6 minutes. Pain and adrenalin had given him the strength to extricate himself while I was speeding over to his house. When I got there he was leaning against the truck, standing on one leg, missing a shoe and shaking uncontrollably in shock. I took him to the ER and x-rays showed he had broken both his tibia and fibula clean through just above the ankle.
We don't know if the box broke his bones or he somehow did it with a superhuman effort to get out from under that box. Either way, it was a horrible yet avoidable accident. Please be careful with your boxes. If yours start to tip, my friend's advice would be to not try and and save it but to get the hell out of the way.

Nah my box is not top heavy. I was just dumb and opened too many draws at once.

Believe me not one of my brightest days today, I am usually good with it, but today I was preoccupied putting things away and this happened.

Going to do the 1 draw rule for myself lol..

Yikes, I am very grateful at this point.

I estimate my box is only around 300 pounds as its not big and only has basic tools. But sockets and wrenches get heavy really quick.

Hope you friend recovers quickly.

My SO will only open one drawer at a time. Well, one on top and one on bottom. I think most boxes made now are the same. HF doesn't have this lockout. Anyone know about Craftsman?
