Never got fired from a job until today. I could kind of feel it coming though in the past few weeks. The shop manager kind of had a grudge against me, I could just feel it. Never argued with him or anything, the guy is just a real dick. I'm the third tech to get fired since December. The whole politics and managment at this particular shop is a bunch of horseshit. I got two strikes against me and got fired just like that. I don't even remember working on the cars that I got in trouble for. Anyway, I kind of have mixed feelings about the whole thing. For one, I feel a little depressed for getting fired from a job for the first time in my life, and yet relieved that I won't have to work at that stressful environment and see that prick again. I will miss my co-workers though. Some of the nicest group of guys I ever worked with, always helped you out when you needed them, let you borrow a tool you did not have yet, even gave you the rest of their lunch when they were too full to finish it. I just don't know what to do now. I got a wife, daughter, mortgage and a bunch of bills. This economy has really tanked in the past few years that it has effected my whole life. Its really hard to make a living now a days.

Sorry to hear about your situation, especially in economic times like this.
But, in an attempt to cheer you up, I'll throw this out there: Bang his wife!!! |

If a place sucks to work at it is better to get out of it. The one nice thing about auto mechanics, is there are always places looking for guys. The hardest thing is finding a shop that pays good. Best luck.

Hang in there buddy. Mechanics are in such demand, there should plenty of opportunities to get back to work.
I know it seems like the end of the world. Take a deep breath.... don't panic and start looking around tomorrow to see what is out there for you. |

It may sound contrite, but honestly speaking you'll probably be glad this happened at some point in the near future. Good luck and I hope something works out for you.

The economy varies by region around this Nation.
Job demand and security has changed dramatically in recent years. Some fields of work are dried up, others are thriving. Time to find what jobs are hot in your area. Where are you located? It may be time to relocate. For example: My refrigeration guy for commercial cooling is, and has been, crazy busy for years. Dave |

Take this chance to work for yourself. At least until you find a steady job. Keep your head up. Things will turn around. Good luck

1. Don't sweat it, shit happens.
2. Take a day or two off and unwind a little bit. 3. Then hit the ground looking for a job. I was in a similar boat a while back, though I quit my job because of politics. I took three days off to relax and unwind, then got to work looking for a job. I had a new job offered to me about a week later, so the jobs are out there if you're looking. We had a couple days that were peanut butter and jelly, ramen, or mac and cheese for dinner because of finances getting a little tight, but it's nothing you can't survive. |

Hopefully you have a rainy day fund,if so live off that until something else comes along, can you cut grass, run errands, fix on cars in the backyard for some cash, you may end up working for yourself as getting fired is usually the catalyst for starting your own business.
I've been fired-quit many times, while i was living paycheck to paycheck while my wife wasnt working as well and trust me things will get better.

Thanks guys for all the positive input.
It helps to if you have a good family and friends to help you out in these situations. My sister and brother-in-law need me to do a couple of things around their house tomorrow and my brother-in-laws' mom that lives close by needs a couple things done too. My friend needs me to look at his Jeep this weekend, and my parents need a few things done around their house as well.

Ummm......would that be linked to the beer drinkers around you? ![]() Back on point. OP I hope you find a better horizon in your future. Sounds like getting out of that shop, may do more good then harm. Work is needed, but sometimes when the stress is just too much, a change of working environment is warranted. Best of luck to you, keep your head up, and don't stress bout it. Forbes says, you should always be looking for your next job right after you get hired! |

Fwiw, I just put in my 2 weeks notice at a dealership today! On a whim a few months ago I applied for an electrical union apprenticeship and ended up being accepted! Instead of buying 10's of thousands of dollars in tools, only to get screwed every day by the flat rate system because something completely out of your power slowed you down, or no customers are coming through the door. I'm going to be making $37/hour once I'm a journeyman, $55/hour once you include the benefits, while spending practically nothing on tools. Plus if you ever run into the situation where there's no work, instead of being AT WORK, you get to be at home! Doing whatever the hell you want!
Don't worry too much about your coworkers, the worst place I've ever worked at had the best coworkers ever. I made shit for money, 100% incompetent management at EVERY level, but a lot of the people became my best friends. |

keep your head up! i lost my job on the 19 of may and it was june 11 before i was able to find another. you just have to keep at it. lots of mechanics jobs out there. i was getting very frustrated with my job search but i finally found one paying more money and full benefits. my wife was even able to stay at home with our newborn and work part time pursuing what she wants to do. so it gets better, just takes time.

yeah....one thing I've learned, there's always someone worse off than you.
I was fired after 14 years ar my job just after my 62nd B'day - it will be a year the end of July, and no one want to hire "experienced" guys like me, except at minimum wage..... You'll be fine.

It seems bad now, but i bet you end up with a better job and will be able to look back on this as just a little bump in the road.
Use your frustration as the energy and motivation to go get that new job. Look forward, not backwards.

What got yourself fired? Too many comebacks?
You won't find any sympathy from me for your situation. You need to look into the mirror, manup, accept responsibility, and learn from your mistakes and not repeat them next time..
