Finally getting started on my garage upgrade! We had the house custom built in 2010. The front area of the garage is 22.5 x 22.5' and I use it to park the two daily drivers, wash the cars year round and store as little as possible.
The back area is 14x18' and has a lift that I had installed in Feb 2011. I use this space for working on our cars and will eventually park a 3rd car once I determine what I want. This weekend I'm painting the garage, currently only has the heavy texture drywall finish from the builder. I'm using a Graco Aireless sprayer that I used to paint the interior of the house. Still on the fence about color, either white or light gray. Either way its getting primed then covered with exterior paint. I built a small closet 2'x3' in the front corner to hold golf clubs, my Griots bucket and all the car detailing stuff. Next I'm moving onto the floor and building a proper work bench, some more cabinets and a sink. Right now I'm leaning towards porcelain tile but I keep going back and forth. Lot's of great threads on this board with tons of great info and inspiration. Enjoy Last edited by mdistel; 08-01-2012 at 09:00 PM. |

Very nice. With the lift you should be able to park two cars in the alcove. Ever thought about building a hot rod? That is what garages like yours are supposed to be used for.

any room to open up the ceiling above the lift? looks like you'd only be able to get a car 4 feet or so off the ground.

My bro-in-law built a Cobra, very fast, but I prefer something more practical that I can drive to work. Our nice days only season is too short in Cleveland, OH.

I can get about 5' under the car so I do have to stoop or sit on a rolling stool. I could modify the trusses above to loft the ceiling, it would be a large project but is doable. I'd probably put the money towards building a detached garage and building a larger shop. For now, this will have to do.

Primer is done, took only 1 hr to spray about 1800sq ft. Not a bad job but the garage is really stuffy and its about 90 out.

I like that lift. 5 ft of room beats working on a creeper any day.

Same issue with my ceilings, and now I prefer to sit on a stool while doing overhead work... Looks great!

Quick update on progress. Painting is done and the closet is almost finished, just have some painting to wrap up. Laying VCT in a gray/black checkerboard pattern in the rear shop area. After that I'll start building the workbench.

VCT in the shop area is installed. I left the area around the posts open so I can inspect the concrete. I'll dry lay tiles in those areas. Next I'll finish the lower wall area and install a threshold.

I once saw a flightline mech weld a car seat to the lower frame of a shoping cart. It looked very confortable and adjustable recline too! add a cup holder and a tool tray and your set.
