I was just wondering what the highest mileage gas engine car you guys have is? Does it have any major work done to it (engine/tranny rebuilds)?
Mine is a 97 Camry with 283,000 miles on it (4 cyl). It still runs great and is my daily driver. Its still original tranny and engine. Only work done to it is new radiator, new steering rack, 2 timing belts, and one wheel bearing replaced. |

Toyota truck bought new, 1983, 4 cyl, 5 speed with 317,800+ miles. Replaced timing chain as that is Toyota weakness on 22R engine. Had to first brake job at 314,000 miles. Currently could use a front oil seal replaced. Transmission never touched

92 Celica with the same motor as OP. 253k miles, no major work ever to motor or trans. Spend 100k miles turbo'd, and has had at least 100lbs of nitrous run through it.
Also 93 Escort GT with the 1.8 DOHC Mazda motor and trans. Previous owner destroyed trans (i blame bad driving), motor went to 286k miles before i pulled it. Still ran fine. |

I had a 94 mazda mx-6 v6. I had about 280k on it, it ran perfect when I sold it years ago.
Only thing on the actual engine I ever changed was a water pump and timing belts. God I loved that car. |

87 VW Golf 5spd. 330k on it and it survived another 20k with my son driving it. The shifter mechanism fell apart and we eventually sold it to a friend who fixed that and the last I heard it is still running / driving... I was the 3rd owner.
BTW - as far as I know, this car never had synthetic oils in it. Just 10w30 and filter every 5k miles or so. Lots of highway time. |

I just sold a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta with a 5 speed vr6 motor. Had 175k on it and didn't use a drop of oil. I bet it would have gone 500k easily.

94 CHEV PICK-UP Z-71 4x4 Now I sold it, but know the guy. I sold it with 235,000, last time I talked to him it had 285,000. never done nothing to the engine or tranny. A/C comp changed around 150k (still worked but was noisy)
just quaker state oil every 5k. This truck had 35 mudders on it and pulled a camper and boat all over texas, and played in the mud in between. My deer lease was 600 miles round trip through the hill country pulling trailer every time for 15 years. That thing is still daily driven. |

1993 gmc c2500 5.7/4l80e, sold it with 280k-ish on the clock, nothing major done to engine and transmission overhauled at 275k. Recently talked to the guy that bought it and it now has over 300k with no issues.
Currently have a 1998 jeep cherokee 4.0/auto with over 200 on it, been in the family since around 40k with nothing major done to it yet. |

'95 Chevy Caprice 9C1, old ex-Plano TX PD car, 265k miles. The LT1 motor has never been cracked open, but I've been through a string of 4L60E rebuilds (and I currently don't have a working reverse gear). Still gets about 19mpg in mixed driving, 25mpg on the freeway if I keep my foot out of it.
Out of the five vehicles we have, the '97 Grand Am has the lowest mileage, at around 118k.

1991 Ford Escort Pony...367,000 miles. Blew a head gasket 2 months ago and dropped in my backup engine. Took the original to a friend to rebuild it and he was amazed at how good everything was. Basically we did new gaskets, seals and it went back in!
2nd transmission, 4th timing belt and water pump, 5 clutches, 3rd radiator, complete suspension rebuild with upgrades and a new manual steering rack. Been a pizza delivery car since 72,000 miles and gets 30 mpg delivering and over 50 mpg on my rare highway trips. Rabid about my oil changes at 3000 to 4500 miles and radiator flush in the spring. Overheat was due to a bad temp sender and a leaking cap combined with 108 degree summer city driving. I have 5 other similar Escorts and the engines get the same treatment, but seem to accumulate problems faster. Valve guides, dropped valve seats, broken wrist pin, collapsed lifters etc. Bruce

My great grandpa used to have an old Plymouth that he bought new back in the early 70s. The engine had 370k when he parted the car out.
My dad used to have an old Toyota work truck. Had a little over 400k when he gave up on the body - still ran like a dream. |

2005 Sunfire, 133,xxx on it right now. I put 30-35,000 miles on it a year, so I expect it'll be breaking 200,000 before too long.
No engine issues at all, doesn't burn a drop of oil between 8,000 mile changes. Aside from basic maintenance - brakes, spark plugs, O2 sensor (preventative change), CV shafts (one preventative, one had a bad boot), ball joints, and outer tie rod ends, the only issues I've had with it are bearings. It's gone through about 4 bearings per front wheel in 2 years - original OEMs, Advance Auto brand, and 2 sets of Timkens. New tires and alignment and no issues for the past year on bearings, though. Parents have a 2004 Grand Cherokee with 175k on it, but some engine issues will probably keep it from seeing 200. 15,000 mile oil changes tend to do that. |

90 bronco 302, 215k miles, all original drivetrain on everything. Never serviced other than fluids. Water pump has been changed though.
88 bronco 302, 230k or 330k, bought it for cheap 6 months ago. Motor has a knock, previous owner ran it out of oil too many times. Last edited by Need4racin; 07-16-2012 at 09:19 PM. |
