Wow, I was just thinking this exact question this morning. Thanks for the link, a little searching proved helpfull.

Easy enough for anyone to understand and correct in engineer terms for normal people. If you can tear it by hand at the store then the trade can and will during pour time. If you can afford it go with 15 mil and suggest you tape the seams even if you overlap.

If I had another slab to do I would not use it as I think it lends itself to letting the water out of the concrete too fast. (Less workable time, more cracks) Take it for what it is worth. I am not a professional like some of these guys.

Xception, a vapor barrier actually keeps mix water in the concrete by preventing it from being absorbed by the sub grade. It can result in increased bleed water for the same reason. Bleed water can delay finishing operations though it isn't typically a major problem.

In any case, a vapor barrier has no effect on cracking. Installing a vapor barrier is good construction practice and is mandatory if you want to install any kind of adhered floor covering.
