Now this is the coolest thing i've probably ever personally come across. It was actually found during the home inspection. The inspector curiously pointed out a mirror on the roof in the attic. Naturally I went over and touched it and to my surprise the roof moved. So I pushed on it, and a doorway opened up....
![]() ![]() This is what It looked like ![]() I know nothing about this old crap, but it sure looks awesome. One of the machines has a reel to reel still rolled up in it. The guy had it pretty hooked up in there. When inside and you close the door, there's a momentary switch that gets pressed. There's 2 lights, 2 light switches and under the insulation from the p.o. it has vinyl flooring. The door also has two gate latches to keep people out when inside. I also found a few signs, one for an old local radio station from the 60's and another little personal sign saying TV service master GE electronic tubes, and his name. Also, the basement has a couple of old speakers hanging and with wires running upstairs. Lets hear opinions on what this guy was doing... Paranoid about the russians invading? Running a secret midnight local radio show? A spy? Or was it just some boy scout... I don't know. But i really want to hear whats on the tape. I'm not going to try anything until I find someone that knows what they're doing. I don't want to screw anything up. |

Post some pics of the equipment up close, so we can see exactly what type of receiver/transmitter it is. Pretty cool

Little black box on the far left looks like an old VHF/UHF antenae rotor controller.
HAM radio ? Any large cables or antenae running outside? |

My guess would also be HAM radio. The guy probably had that spot settup so he could go listen and transmit at night without disturbing other people in the house....I remember our time spent living in a rented duplex where the neighbor spent all night on his HAM radio.....we all tried to sleep with him going "CQ, CQ, CQ" through the wall all night long......

I'm a 60 year old audio guy....
If you were to post some closeups of the gear, I can probably tell you what was being done. and the year it was equipped. What a find !!

I'd bet Ham radio, but who knows for sure.
I bet the speakers in the basement are there so he could listen to it, but not have to sit in the tiny room. mabey his workshop was in the basement? Is there a floor under the insulation? |

It's strange that somebody would put insulation in but not bother to remove the radio gear

Perhaps the tape talks about who was really behind the Kennedy assassinations.
