Not a bad vise at all for $90, especially considering the geography! I'm sure it'll serve you well. Good find!

I don't think anyone is mad at you, they just want the items and don't think they are "junk".
It's all good. Thanks for posting. I'd be interested in stuff you see at this flea market. You should take plenty of pictures and post them up!

Well, I could tell you were from Kuwait form your first post. Welcome to garage journal and don't mind people that come off a bit unfriendly, most people here are quite nice. That is a very neat vise considering the history. Honestly, I would just use it for a while and go from there. It hardly needs a restoration yet.

I to would love to see more of the random junk that was left over there. I would even love to see whatever local novelties that may show up at a your Friday Market. So what do in Kuwait that made you interested in a USA vise? There are people all over the world doing cool stuff but most of us never get to see anything outside of our own little areas.

I don't think he is mad at you if anything he probable upset with the representatives in Washington. I think it's just a wast of tax taxpayers money. I bet the US Government ordered 6 more to replace that one (probable why we have budget problems).

I imagine that they left it in Kuwait because they determined it was more expensive to ship it back to the States, than to buy a new one here.

Doubtful those are $600 vises. As a taxpayer the waste is sickening.

Wow I had no idea that Columbian vices were that expensive. I found one that was about to be thrown out bc the base of it broke, so I drilled holes in the vice and bolted it to my work bench!

I am a military member recently returning from Kuwait. My main job was property disposition for my unit. We took a lot of property to DRMO office there. Sadly, when we took stuff there, a ton of usable property was thrown into the scrap bins.

Driving in Kuwait was a very unique experience, very aggressive drivers, people passing exits on the highway and turning around and driving backwards.

A very interesting country to visit and most people I ran into were extremely fluent in English. The weather was also extremely warm.

Best of Luck!

Of course everything is new in Kuwait.

During the first war over there all their **** was destroyed.

I remember the entire USA was purged of Chevy Impalas and shipped over here. There was wanted ads in the paper looking for those cars here to export.

There are also laws covering repatriating former US Military stuff back to the US. That's one reason why there are so many L29/L39 jet trainers in the US & very few US built ones.

That was the vehicle of choice. Front engine RWD, 4-doors. Tough, easy to repair and used a bunch as taxis. I think a bunch were already over there before the war and it was their favorite.

-.-' This is not true...in the 90's we had Suburbans & alota caprices but no impalas the inpallas whent brought by the chevy dealership we have...!!'
A few impalls few where imported by minor dealerships...!'m

I wasn't referring to the vehicle exhausts and stuff, I was referring to people speeding, driving aggressive. The highways weren't bad, but the streets in Kuwait city were tough to navigate. I even saw people drive backwards on the highway because they passed their exit.

With that said, there were some very nice areas in Kuwait. I mainly drove on highway 40.

I enjoyed my time in Kuwait.
