Title pretty much says it all. I installed my ceiling mounted Mr. Heater gas furnace (model MHU50NG) in late December. While it does the job, I did think it was a bit noisy from day one. Putting my hand on the fan motor...I could feel a good bit of vibration, so I was wondering if the fan blade were not properly balanced...or perhaps warped.
Fast forward two months...and the unit started making a lot more noise...a very annoying rattling-type sound...as if something were loose. The noise only occurred when the fan was on. After inspecting everything and ensuring that all fasteners were tight, I noticed that the fan blade itself was cracked in two locations...at the crotch of where two blades meet. See pic attached.
I called Mr. Heater, and wouldn't ya know it...they're all out of fan blades. Can't help but wonder if they're out of them because so many of them fail.
It's anybody's guess how long it'll be before they send me a replacement fan blade. Hopefully before this one fails catastrophically. I'm also hoping that this was just an anomaly, and the replacement will last for many many years (as a fan blade should). However, these fan blades do appear to be manufactured from some rather low quality (i.e. brittle) stamped carbon steel material. So far....I'm not super pleased with my choice of heaters...time will tell.
Regards, TJ
