I'm getting scared to buy an IR impact after reading a few of the power loss threads on here.

Might just buy the SO.

It ***** man I don't like the snap ons at all but this ir is discouraging. My old 231 was great thought I'd get into the composite impacts and it is not what I thought it would be

There's no difference in power really. But if you want to remove the mufflers, they're are two of them. One in the handle/exhaust area and one wrapped around the motor. Hope this helps.

Save your money on the SO. I have 2 MG725 and an MG325 that's low on power. My 2135 has been working like a bull with no signs of stopping.

The 3/4" drive IR I got used had the bottom vent plastic cut out and the exhaust muffler removed already, so I don't have a reference to know how big of a difference it makes.
I can tell you, after rebuilding a LOT of air tools, the exhaust muffler material in some of them is pretty thick, and gets worse the more oil and dirt gets packed into it over time. Any air tool will work better the faster the air going in can get out of the exhaust.

Worst case, if you're not happy with it, sell it and pick up an IR 2145, I love mine. Or if you want an older model great working 2131, I have one for sale (it may not be pretty, but stick a boot on it and no one will ever know, haha :lol_hitti).

He already has a 2131q. He's trying to convert it to a regular 2131. The next logical upgrade would be the 2135timax.

We removed one of the lube techs mufflers on his.......but we had to chisel apart the handle bottom. It ended up ugly and only helped power a little. And it got way loud.
Like 86 said, don't be scared. Get the IR2135 ti max. That impact drips piss and vinegar. I have one at work and one at home. I also have the snap on mg gun. It's a skotch stronger than the IR but it's bigger heavier and more spendy.
