Could you guys recommend the best garage exhaust fans for a 2 car attached garage (preferably through the wall). I have some gas fumes floating around and misc other from working on my toys trying to find the best solution to eliminate the fumes, and keep them from going into the basement when the door is open. thanks in advance !

I have been researching this too. My building ends have a louvered vent about 12 inches wide. I was hoping to have a low volume fan exhaust the hot air from the highest point of the room which would **** cooler air in from the opposite end of the building.

I have a window unit air conditioner that will pull the workshop temp down to about 75 in the hottest days so far this year and it climbs a few degrees in the heat of the day. I want the fan to assist removeing some of the heat.

I have thought about a relatively cheap household 10 inch desk fan mounted on a shelf directing room air toward the vent ($30 at places like target and wally-world) but fear the hot duty of that cheap fan motor will just be a fire hazard....not to mention the plastic blades in that heat. I'm talking about a hot Florida summer outbuilding....

So I will find something and post what I bought...soon !

This is a $90 gable vent fan and a couple of grills. It vents into the attic and out the roof vents.

I use a 42 inch drum/barrel fan in the door way, either blowing in for cooling or blowing out for exhaust. Seems to work "good enough" for my purposes. There have ben no explosions and no heat strokes so far.

Do you have a gas curb in your garage? Gas fumes are heaver than air and that gas curb should direct them out of the garage door. If you are getting them inside your house/basement, that is a big issue and your house could explode. (This is a particularly big issue for boats. Having this stuff in your basement could be much worse)

Is your problem really the gas fumes or exhaust fumes?

And its gas fumes, but no more than the typical fumes that you would get from a gas can sitting in the garage, the fumes come out of my vent pipe from the gas tank in the car, very minimal, and the only reason why it leaked into the house was because i had the door that goes into the garage open by accident, and i turned the attic fan on (pretty powerful) and it sucked everything in, if the door to the garage is closed then nothing comes through

and what do you mean by gas curb? bit confused on this?

Even a small amount of fumes can be a big problem, so keeping the door shut while working is generally the best thing to do. Just a teaspoon of fuel turned to vapor in a small room is explosive.

The gas curb is a step "up" in to the house from the garage. Some older houses may not have one. Typically there is a concrete curb that runs around the garage floor, which is 6-8" below the level of the house floor. In a normal situation, the fumes will fall to the garage floor, hit the curb, and then flow outside through the main garage doors. (The garage floor should also be sloped slightly towards the garage doors to facilitate this action.)

Having your whole house fan on while the door is open could overcome this safety feature, so that's a situation you'd want to avoid.
