Wayne Compressor - 1988 - Tell me about it?

Just picked this up tonight...

V-Twin
Two-Stage
Cast Iron cylinders, case, and head
Twin belt setup

Marathon 5hp motor
Single Phase
1750 RPM

Tank Certified in 1988
Believed to be an 80 Gallon?
Upright the top of the air filter is about 6' 2"

Anyone know the history on Wayne? Would like to know about this particular series of compressor. Hopefully it's a good one

Anyone know where to buy parts if needed? It runs up to 170ish psi pretty quick and easy. Very quiet.

Funny, two people a few days apart show up with the same compressor TRU-7.5. I believe it is a 2 stage ~800RPM ~15-25CFM @ 90PSIG unit. Maybe a max of 7.5HP I'm thinking the TRU series was 80's - early 90's. :dunno:

LeRoi/Wayne/Dresser pumps can be a real pain to get info on. They are very good quality units, but just not well documented compared to other brands like IR or quincy.

Try calling this place, they seem to have quite a few parts. Maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Looks like a 60gal tank, but you could always measure the tank and calculate the volume if you wanted to be sure. Yea, marathon makes good motors. Some of their lower end ones can be a bit sketchy, but that looks like one of their nicer units. :thumbup:

Value...IDK, it is a good unit, but lesser known. Parts can be a real pain to find. If it runs like it should, I'd say ~$500 for a good working solid compressor like that is a fair to good price. What did you have to fork over for it?

Was anyone able to find a parts manual for this unit? I just acquired a unit with a bit of a rod knock on the high pressure piston. Pics attached, shiny nickel if you spot the cause. I checked online for days, including the site listed above, but they don't list hard parts and can't supply hard internal bits without a part number from the manufacturer. I understand LeRoi/Dresser was acquired by CompAir, who is now owned by Gardner-Denver. I called all three and none were terribly helpful.

Anyone able to shed some light on this mystery? I just need the connecting rod, gudgeon pin, piston, and bearings for both ends of the rod.

Have you contacted WAYNE DRESSER AND asked if they have a historian? You never know.

LeRoi is now owned by the parent group who owns Champion. (Gardner-Denver) The right guy at the factory will know where the historical library is located.
Either source will takes some careful working through the company directory.

I think that is more a LeROI than a Wayne, but they were both owned by Dresser at one time. Wayne compressors were mostly vertical twins, but that one is a V twin. The LeROIs were descended from Westinghouse Air Brake compressors, but that pump does not really look exactly like the other Westinghouse or LeROI units I have seen. I also don't see any evidence of an unloader, so perhaps the TRU series was a simplified design?

Crazy that it’s been 5 years since I bought this! I think I paid $650 for it, and sold my 33 gallon Craftsman for $300, so I only came out of pocket $350 for this one (if I remember correctly)... It runs flawlessly every day.

I did find air filters for it using the link above, but I haven’t needed anything else... sorry

Ya never know... my Mitsubishi Lancer has 254k miles on it, i’m the original owner, and it has never been rebuilt...

I just picked up one of these, mine looks identical but it has a low oil cut off switch. I got it for free, it looks like somebody tipped it over and it crushed the belt guard and pressure switch. I wired up an old pressure switch and straightened out the belt guard, it seems to run good, looks like the belt guard took most of the grunt.

After firing it up I noticed the drain on the bottom of the tank has been snapped off flush, so I will have to tackle that tomorrow and hydro test it.

I have searched a bunch and cant seem to find any info on this model, this thread is pretty much the only thing I have found on this compressor.
