I bought a Milwaukee ht3500 about 5 years ago for little projects around the home. This year it quit working so I called to find out it was made for Milwaukee by Wagner. I called Wagner to find out if replacement parts were available. They had me send the gun in and sent me a brand new one for free. They even paid shipping both ways. I'm impressed. The gun itself is a great gun. It has multiple heat settings and a high and low. Also it doesn't cost a arm and a leg. I was considering the dewalt but after they offer to fix mine....

I have a couple of Wagner heat guns that I have been happy with. They both have a heat output of about 750*F to 1,000*F.

The smaller one is handy for get into tight spaces (within reason) and the built in stand on the larger one (HT775) is good for hands free operation. I think I paid about $35 and $50 for them.

I was walking through the paint dept. at Home Depot the other day and noticed this sitting on the counter

I have not had the chance to use it for any projects yet, but it seems to have gotten pretty decent reviews. At $24 marked down from $59, I couldn't pass it up. For that price, it might be worth checking your local HD. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-11-Amp-Variable-Temperature-Heat-Gun-HG600/100661423#.Uo9gfeKFerU

Not available locally, atleast not in stock. It does show on the site but at regular price.

Maybe I need to scroll through HD, Lowe's and Menard's and look for some yellow sale tags. :dunno:

Cheap and swap out warranty,......I sell tons of these. Customers like the Master hg501a best though. Every now and then I'll sell a Makita HG1100 which are solid.
Good luck on your choice!

The Wagner HT3500 is the one I was eyeballing.

You know there was a recall on that model heat gun right?

http://www.wagnerspraytech.com/portal/heat_gun_en_spray.html

"Heat Gun Recall"

"Wagner or Milwaukee or Ace HT3500 or MHT3300"

"Name of product: Heat Guns

Units: About 300,000

Manufacturer: Wagner Spray Tech Corp., of Minneapolis, Minn.

Hazard: An electrical component failure inside the heat guns can cause them to continue to produce heat after the power switch is turned off. This can melt the heat gun’s plastic exterior, causing a burn if the heat gun is touched and ignite nearby combustibles, posing fire and burn hazards.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received nine reports of the heat guns overheating. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

Description: The recalled heat guns emit hot air and are used for paint and flooring removal, defrosting freezers and water lines, bending plastic, hobbies, etc. Recalled models include the Milwaukee Heat Gun MHT3300, ACE HT3500 Heat Gun, and the Wagner Heat Gun HT3500. The heat gun’s name and model number are located on a black label on the bottom of the heat gun’s barrel. The heat guns are black or yellow plastic and measure about 10 inches long, 8 inches high and 3 inches wide.
Sold at: Major and independent hardware and home improvement stores nationwide from November 2004 through April 2009 for about $40.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled heat guns and contact Wagner for a free replacement product.
Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Wagner toll-free at (888) 925-6244 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday"

I just picked up this one, because like an idiot I left both of the good ones out at the shop when I needed one.

Worked well for the 15 min I used it.

I have that exact one - GREAT lil' heatgun for $55. I have been very pleased with it. It has a "variable" setting that's like a round disc on the back and you turn in clockwise to heat up and CCW to cool down. VERY great gun. Paid $55 and never looked back.

Bought this Dewalt. Good ratings on Amazon, it worked well for me. Has a dial adjustor on the rear, and comes with 3 tips if I recall.

Well, I just got off the phone with Wagner. That recall item was taken care of and they have had no issues since then. Mine is new, not made during that period, 10/'04-04/'09. The copyright on the box is from 2012, so hopefully I will be safe.

Thanks for the heads up though. I will keep it in mind if we (FD) have a fire and a heat gun was in use.

Wasn't trying to offend anyone, one of the first things that came up though when I Googled the model number to see a pic was the recall. At least it did some good.

No complaints on the current porter cable, ~2 years of use. Only issue is it did not come with any extensions that you come with other heat guns.

The $9 HF heat gun (with coupon) is hard to beat. I use mine every week. For the price, I have a spare waiting in the wings for when it eventually goes out.

I have the same one. I've gone through about a mile of heat shrink tubing with it.

miles of shrink tubing, 100+ cars for worming up paint when fender rolling, and tons of other various jobs. never gave me problems.

The ole drillmaster! Yes. That's exactly what I use.:rocker:

Hell, I'd use a hairdryer if that's all I had floating around, granted it wouldn't work well but I'd use it. Don't need no doodads or fancy thermal plating or fancy rubber coating.

For reference, you can definitely use a soldering iron to heat bolts. Only problem is it's a pain in the **** to do because it requires more precision than you're going to want to use anywhere on a car.

I've got the HF one as well. Works fine for my limited needs.

Picked it up for about $7 on sale - then they tried to sell me an extended warranty....

I have a 40-year old Milwaukee. I use it for shrinking shrink tubing and softening blow-molded tool cases to reshape for other tools. Sometimes drying paint. I've never used it for paint stripping- I'm just paranoid to think those fumes are out to get me.
