I'm planning my garage and one of the stipulations in the plat is the detached garage looks like and made of the same materials as the house. I plan on 9' ceilings in the house so with the detached garage I can get away with 10' sidewalls. It will have a hip roof and be 24 x 36' and a double door on the 36' side. I'm hoping to have a "tray" ceiling to pick up a couple more feet of ceiling height. I would also like to get a 4 post lift so between the garage door hardware and ceiling height I want to get it all to work.

Go to any of the lift manufacturers websites and they will give you every possible spec on their lifts.

I guess that I was looking as to what others have done to overcome these problems with the garage door hardware and the lift.

I have a Quality/Challenger lift 9000 pound 4 post.
It is 105 inches wide at the outside edges of the posts, and 14' 6" long at the tip end of the runways. That is not including the approach ramps.
This is a big, thick, solid lift. Not one of the internet cheapies that wiggles when you are wrenching on a car.

Don't forget to consider what you plan on lifting. For example, trucks generally require wider lifts so the runways are wide enough for the wheel track and to clear the mirrors.

I went back and re-read my post, wasn't trying to sound like a ****, just didn't know which lift manufacturer you were looking at. Good luck.

No problem, I didn't take it as that. I just didn't explain my needs in the first post. I'm trying to figure out the relationship of the garage tracks and the 4 post lifts so that there is no interference because the lift will sit under or next to the track.

I have an 11' high ceiling, and I find that my cars are so high that it doesn't afford me a lot of room under the car for working. If you can, I suggest that you consider a truss roof configuration that will allow you some additional space above the lift for the auto to occupy. When you are in the planning stages, it is a lot easier to make changes than to try to modify an existing structure.
If I had it to do all over again, I would build the garage around the lift, rather than building the garage around a particular vehicle. Chances are that you are only going to own one lift, but you will own a multitude of vehicles in your lifetime.

Ditto on the higher ceiling. Perhaps a fake upstairs to give you 14' ceilings. I'm tall and like to walk under my work.
