Review of NewAge Pro cabinets and garage make over...

Several weeks ago, Costco had a special on a 10 piece NewAge Pro Series garage cabinet set. After much debate, I eventually pulled the trigger and ordered the set which arrived last week, in time for Thanksgiving and time off of work to install.

We've lived in our house for over 10 years and the garage is the last place we haven't really done many improvements other than stack up junk, kids toys, etc on shelving. Knowing the cabinets were coming, I was able to donate tons of items to the local Habitat for Humanity and local Goodwill store. First order was a warm weekend and some heaters in the garage and new coat of paint on the walls. Next summer when it warms up again, I'll do the epoxy flooring.

The cabinets arrived on a pallet and the driver was very helpful to set them in the garage since it was snowing outside. The packaging was very solid and everything came wrapped up without any damage.

The cabinets are the NewAge Pro Series in gray. They are very solid, 18 gauge metal, welded, and required no fabrication upon delivery. The set consists of 2 big lockers, tool chest, 2 door standing floor cabinet, 4 wall cabinets, and butcher-block countertop (they even included 4 LED lights for under the cabinet). I had to assemble the feet and screw in the riser feet on each cabinet. I was by myself and was able to lay over each cabinet, including the massive lockers, and screw the cleat on with the feet. For some people it may take two people to lift the cabinets as they were heavy (the tool chest was the heaviest of the cabinets).

I assembled all the floor standing cabinets and set them in place. I had to do some major adjusting on the risers since my flooring was level the closer I got to the wall (nothing to do with the cabinets, thankful they had riser feet). I set the butcher-block tables on top of the cabinets until I got the wall cabinets in place.

Once the floor cabinets were done, I marked the studs on the wall with painters blue masking tape so when I put the cabinets up, I could see where the studs were from within the cabinet. I screwed a 10ft - 2x4 to the wall (temporarily) and level to set the bottom of the cabinet height and was able to place the wall cabinets on top of the 2x4 when securing them to the wall. My wife and 14 year old son helped with the 4 wall cabinets, mainly screwing the cabinets together on each of their sides. NewAge supplied all the hardware and then some (I didn't need to buy anything). The cabinets come with 4 holes on each side and we screwed them together in addition to the lag bolts of screwing them into the studs. I also secured the locker cabinets to the wall and to the 4 wall cabinets to prevent them from tipping.

My only modification which I read online was to cut the butcher-block on the corners to avoid a crease point when the locker doors open (see photo). The butcher-block is about 3/4" wider than the cabinet and would potentially cause a crease if someone opened the door too far.

I'm very impressed and happy with the NewAge cabinet choice. These cabinets hold a ton of items and are very well made and the compliments over Thanksgiving from friends and family have been very positive.

They give the garage a nice clean look from what i can see.

Very tiny pics on the phone app make it difficult to get a good look at them.

Looks like a good setup

I have the same set in taupe. Absolutely love them! I have had them for over a year now and they are nice and sturdy and have held up great.

Hello,

Thank you for the review. I was considering those cabinets but I did not know of anyone that could give me a review.

They look very neat in your garage.

To answer some questions:

1) Quality of hardware/hinges: the hinges are solid, sheet metal tabs which have been formed and have a solid pin through the height of the cabinet. No issues anticipated

2) Shelving: all the shelving in the unit is the same 18 gauge powder coated steel and they attach via tabs on the cabinet with stick out. To be honest it took me a few tries to get the hang of adjusting the shelf height as the shelves tended to get caught up on previous rows to which I had to push the cabinet out slightly with my fingers to let the shelf not catch the tab (if that makes sense). Start with putting the shelf in at the lowest level then lift it to the height you want it at. They will set in place on the tabs and the weight is evenly distributed to the sides and back of the cabinet.

3) Locks: The locks are great - not sure how to secure them as they all have the same key option. Guess I could buy a separate tumbler with different key if needed.

4) Drawer glides: The drawer glides appear to be industrial strength and should last a very long time. The tool cabinet is really the only one with the drawer glides (The send free standing cabinet has a pull out shelf which also has them). These can take some weight and are very solid

5) Purchase at Costco: Yes, someone found the link on the thread and these were discounted $500 from the listed Costco price. I didn't pay any shipping, just local taxes on the sale. I assume these will contribute to the nice annual rebate check from Costco.

The free shippping comes from the manufacturer, NewAge, and is the same from any of their distributors. The sets sold at Costco are made up for Costco.

Online stores, like mine, have different sets available. Costco gets better pricing because they purchase containers full of the same set. I sell one set at a time.

Unlike Costco you can get a set made of any combination of cabinets you would like. I offer discounts based on the total price of the individual cabinets. These are the same discounts NewAge offers me, I just pass them on the customer.

Great choice. Those will really help transform the garage. I like that you have a couple spots to pull up a stool and work on something project. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the garage progresses. Is your garage a triple? Would love to see more shots to get the perspective of the rest of the space.
