Several weeks ago, Costco had a special on a 10 piece NewAge Pro Series garage cabinet set. After much debate, I eventually pulled the trigger and ordered the set which arrived last week, in time for Thanksgiving and time off of work to install.
We've lived in our house for over 10 years and the garage is the last place we haven't really done many improvements other than stack up junk, kids toys, etc on shelving. Knowing the cabinets were coming, I was able to donate tons of items to the local Habitat for Humanity and local Goodwill store. First order was a warm weekend and some heaters in the garage and new coat of paint on the walls. Next summer when it warms up again, I'll do the epoxy flooring.
The cabinets arrived on a pallet and the driver was very helpful to set them in the garage since it was snowing outside. The packaging was very solid and everything came wrapped up without any damage.
The cabinets are the NewAge Pro Series in gray. They are very solid, 18 gauge metal, welded, and required no fabrication upon delivery. The set consists of 2 big lockers, tool chest, 2 door standing floor cabinet, 4 wall cabinets, and butcher-block countertop (they even included 4 LED lights for under the cabinet). I had to assemble the feet and screw in the riser feet on each cabinet. I was by myself and was able to lay over each cabinet, including the massive lockers, and screw the cleat on with the feet. For some people it may take two people to lift the cabinets as they were heavy (the tool chest was the heaviest of the cabinets).
I assembled all the floor standing cabinets and set them in place. I had to do some major adjusting on the risers since my flooring was level the closer I got to the wall (nothing to do with the cabinets, thankful they had riser feet). I set the butcher-block tables on top of the cabinets until I got the wall cabinets in place.
Once the floor cabinets were done, I marked the studs on the wall with painters blue masking tape so when I put the cabinets up, I could see where the studs were from within the cabinet. I screwed a 10ft - 2x4 to the wall (temporarily) and level to set the bottom of the cabinet height and was able to place the wall cabinets on top of the 2x4 when securing them to the wall. My wife and 14 year old son helped with the 4 wall cabinets, mainly screwing the cabinets together on each of their sides. NewAge supplied all the hardware and then some (I didn't need to buy anything). The cabinets come with 4 holes on each side and we screwed them together in addition to the lag bolts of screwing them into the studs. I also secured the locker cabinets to the wall and to the 4 wall cabinets to prevent them from tipping.
My only modification which I read online was to cut the butcher-block on the corners to avoid a crease point when the locker doors open (see photo). The butcher-block is about 3/4" wider than the cabinet and would potentially cause a crease if someone opened the door too far.
I'm very impressed and happy with the NewAge cabinet choice. These cabinets hold a ton of items and are very well made and the compliments over Thanksgiving from friends and family have been very positive.
