Today's Makita Angle Grinder score @ Home Depot

I have wanted an angle grinder for quite a while but I was in no rush so I figured I would wait for a good deal to come along and if the deal did not show up I was going to buy a Metabo. A few months back Sears clearanced a Milwaukee model but I was fishing that day and missed out. (that was when I learned to check Garage Journal before I leave the house every day.)

I was at Home Depot today and on my way out, they had a table full of clearance power tools. On top of the pile was buy one get one free package with two Makita Angle Grinders (9557pb) on clearance for $59. I have never seen someone a buy one get one free for power tools where the freebie is the same as the first. I guess this makes sense for angle grinders where people need multiples for different abrasives.

This seemed like a good deal to me so I’m quite excited. $30 per grinder seems like a good deal. Any advice regarding wheels I should buy for amateurish welding and other general automotive needs?

sweet deal!! I find that the sales are different at each branch so if you see a good deal buy it there it wont be around at another branch

also for disks

I tend to use flop disks alot for cleaning welds

Yeah, I have seen the same thing. I think it just depends what each store has left over. I hate Home Depot but it is so close that I go there every couple of weeks. I have lived here two years and I never saw the two-for-one pack of Makita grinders. The just remodeled the Tools department in the store a few months ago so I think they may have found some old stock sitting around.

They also had a few DeWalt combo kits sitting around at $100 of the original price.

I'm surprised you didn't see those before. I saw a bunch of them around Christmas time at different stores. Maybe just in Houston though.

If you wanted to recoup some of your purchase cost PM me, I may be interested in taking the spare off your hands.

I've found that if one HD offers such a "bonus pack" then others might as well. I've seen Dewalt, Ryobi, and Makita two-packs of angle grinders before, but if I recall correctly, except for the Ryobis, the packs were always more than $60.

I recently bought a pair of Dewalt grinders in the box with gloves & some kind of diamond grinding wheel (on clearance) at Lowes for 80.00.
But that sounds even better.

Yeah, it seems like Home Depot is clearing out the leftovers at each store.

I guess I never noticed those 2 for one boxes before at Home Depot. I think I was always looking at the tools and not the boxed below the counter. Considering I have not been in the market for power tools for a while, I just never paid attention to the deals or prices.

I spend so much money at Home Depot, it is nice to get a deal now and then.

don't forget to check out the clearance sections labeled in yellow.
They are usually on the aisle end caps, but in the MIDDLE of the store, not in the front.
