that last one has ******** specs. 6.5HP but only 11.3 CFM. something's wrong here.

thee first two are similar on specs, but if I were you I'd step up to a 5HP single stage. you'll get almost double the airflow for only a little more money.

If I need more power, I can go to my dad's house. This is just for the general wrenching at my house, so I can't justify the higher price. I'm not taking the horsepower serious, just the cfm, which all seem within reason for the size. For instance, to step up to the 5 hp on the Ingersoll is $350 more plus tax.

I've owned that Puma for close to 10 years. It's a great compressor for general wrenching, and it will even run my blast cabinet (within reason). It will run a DA sander, but falls short on high-speed air tools like grinders and angle sanders -- not that it won't run them, but only for 10 minutes or so before you need to let it catch up.

Not a big deal for me -- it replaced a CH 60 gal unit that I had for 12 years and it's a much better compressor. Also, Check Harbor Freight for a good price. If you order from the store and use a discount coupon you can get that compressor for under $500 -- plus you get it delivered by HF to your local store for free. All you have to worry about is pick up.

The fake specs should tell you something about the integrity of the manufacturer.... having said that, I would pick the IR out of those three--air delivery is about the same, and IR makes way more air compressors than the other two mfrs do.

While I am a huge IR fan I do not think the PUMA is any slouch here, it is USA made and does show a better CFM delivery, so that would be my choice.

Tractor Supply has the same one for almost $200 less. With some judicious shopping you could save alot of money and apply those funds to a 5hp. Believe me, you'll become disenchanted with 11 cfm fairly quickly. An air compressor is somewhat of an investment. Something you'll use for a long, long time. Spend an extra $100 or two and get a good one! (Speaking from experience)!

Actually, my local Tractor Supply is where I was planning to purchase the IR, and HF was where I was going to get the Puma.

HF is carrying Puma these days? They are moving up in the world aren't they! I bought the same Puma from a local air compressor dealer some years ago.

Just got a Tractor Supply flyer and they have the SS5L5 this weekend for $799. That's higher than I wanted to go, but awfully tempting.

I have the same Puma Compressor only with the 30 gallon tank. I love it and use it alot for general wrenching. I have a small blast cabinet and it keeps up no problem, just runs alot. I bought mine twelve years ago when I lived in Nashville. At that time,, I was able to buy it from the factory and avoid both shipping and mark up. Go with the Puma, it's a quality unit.

While those who bought their compressors (in reality, anything) 10 or 12 years ago, have gotten good service out of their purchase, you must take into consideration that today's product, even though it might have the same model number, probably does not have the quality of a older one.
These companies that were once noted for quality, have, after moving their production overseas, or even buying chicrap components, are relying on their past reputation, and name recognition, to influence your buying decision.

I'll probably go with the IR, which is on sale this weekend for $550. Mainly because I can get parts for it locally, and if I use IR oil, they up the warranty to 2 years.

Well I went to TSC today. They were out of stock but gave me a rain check for the sale price. Went to Lowes today and they had a Kobalt with about the same specs on sale for $438, which was tempting, but the pump looked cheaper. It didn't even have a paper air filter. I did look through the manual on the Kobalt enough to see that it's manufactured by Sanborn, which is the same brand as my old 1.5 hp 20 gallon compressor that's probably 20 years old. I'm sure it's different though, as I thought Sanborn was bought out 10 plus years ago.

Stick with the IR! It would be worth your while to scrape together another $200 and grab the SS5L5. You'll thank yourself in the longrun!!

It's actually $250. If I can justify that, I'd go 300 more and get a two stage Bel Aire from ASE Deals.
