Doesn't craftsman make something similar? Opps. Never mind. Didn't read the post above me.

speed bump,

Thanks for the link to the WeldingWeb website. In the past, I could not find much feedback on user experiences with Craftsman's counter rotating dual blades saw. I think the DualSaw is overpriced. It is constructed more of plastic than steel. Due to this, I am suspicious of how durable the saw will be over the long haul. The Craftsman model is priced right but I heard about the recall associated with it burning out during intense use. After reading the comments on WeldingWeb, I am better served with using my Dewalt 10 amp, 4-1/2" angle grinder with a metal cutting blade to cut steel plate. The Dewalt angle grinder will cut 3/8" thick steel plate with some time. At least I know the Dewalt will do the job instead of **** out like the Crapsman dual blade saw!

I remember what the cman version came out and there were a number of the NASCAR teams started using them when they had to do some trimming in case of an accedent and they wanted to get the car back on the track.
either they didnt last or they were not better or faster than what they were already using because you dont see the teams with them anymore

Craftsman version is $110 (compared ot $180), but is only available for in-store pickup, meaning that it could be on the way to being clearanced.

For $180, one can get more versatile tools.

Disclosure: I work for Sears Holdings

Sears isn't discontinuing the item. There were some vendor difficulties as the vendor restructured itself and counldn't provide product for a few months. Since the Dual Saw commercial there has been increased interest and now the item is backordered for a month or so.

Also, note that some of the reviews are from 2 years ago and mention the item smoking and seizing up. There haven't been any recent reports of problems as a change was made to the tool and blade design to fix this.

Contrary to Dual Saw claims, the tool isn't that innovative in America since Craftsman has sold the same thing for several years now. In fact there used to be a second version that was sold, but it was discontinued last year.

Thanks for the insight!

Are you're saying that the Craftsman version is not the same tool as the Dual Saw, or at least that they do not share a common manufacturer?

Thanks again for taking the time to set everything in proper perspective for us!

I believe both use the same patent but to our knowledge the Dual Saw is not the same manufacturer. I don't know the Dual Saw quality requirements either but Craftsman Professional tools are tested to a pretty high standard.

Engineers test and verify motor runtime requirements, cold climate drop test requirements (when the plastic molding is most fragile), build quality, verify the claimed specifications, etc.

Both of those look horribly underpowered to me, the dual saw is only 3.9 amps and the Cman is only 7.8 amps especially considering the only saw I own that has that little amperage is my little sawzall. Now if they made a 12+ amp version I think I would find the claims they make more believable.

Actually because of the cutting nature of the blades rotating in opposite directions, it actually does work quite well as advertised in the DualSaw commercial. You can cut through metal like butter and it leaves a pretty clean finish too. I wouldn't recommend it for wood, but that's what a trim saw, circular saw, etc. is for. If you go to this link: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00925574000P?keyword=925574&sLevel=0
and click on "Experience this product," there is a video demonstrating the Craftsman model.

The biggest issue is all of the metal these things kick up as they cut.

I am glad to hear that they have made some improvements to the Craftsman Twin Cutter. We had problems with the armatures going bad a couple years ago. I have never used one, and the only feedback I ever got was from one customer (owner of a small construction company) who said it didn't do what he expected. I think they would be good for cutting expanded metal, and other things that are difficult to cut.
