Does anyone know anything about this OHMIKE variac? It a combination variable/isolation transformer: 120v input - 240v output.

It's pretty heavy duty. The case is 8-10 gauge steel, which leads me to believe that it may be military surplus. I has absolutely no serial numbers on it , but I've never seen one like this.

It could be homemade -- with just the OHMIKE variable transformer put in the case, but the inside looks like a commercial assembly job.

It probably is military....very simple device......voltage in...voltage out....

Want to sell it?

Just don't expect 2A at 240v.....that is why you have two fuses.....at 240 you are only going to get 1A before the 2A input blows.

Usually military stuff is green and has numbers and IDs all over the place. I suspect it was hand built, probably for use in a lab somewhere. At my first engineering job out of college we had a lot of test equipment we built inhouse ourselves that looked real similar. Note how the Input and Output labels for the two switches are off center, which indicates to me they were done by hand with rub-on transfer letters, a commercial product would most likely have silk screened labels.

Variac is a trademarked name for an adjustable autotransformer (nothing to do with automotive). The maximum rating of the auto trandformer should be found on an internal nameplate. They can be fun to play with.
