Cool a workbench area with existing A/C?

In Austin, TX my workbench is against the wall at the house end of a 3-car garage. The laundry room is just behind that wall, and has an A/C grille about 8" x 12" in the ceiling.

Would it provide substantial cooling if I put a "valve" in that duct to redirect that air to another duct in the (10 ft.) ceiling over the workbench? Or bring that new duct down closer, say to 8 ft.?

The garage has no vents, but would I really need a return air with that much volume? In addition to the diverter, could some form of in-line fan in the duct pull more air when I'm working there?

Thanks!

Jon

A supply and or return ducted into the garage is an extremely bad idea. You will provide a path for carbon monoxide and other noxious fumes to enter the living space. I believe it is also a fire code violation, unless you are planning to install fire dampers.

Best thing to do is install a mini-split heatpump in the garage area, this will provide heat and cooling without placeing your family in danger.

Thanks - never thought of that -hadn't considered the possibility of air going the other way - especially with no return.
