Time for my T8 project:
HD has lithonia 8 ft 4 tube fixtures for a newly reduced price of $39. Also phillips bulbs in 4100 degree for $15/10 tubes. The price was too compelling not to first research, and then purchase. Purchased 6 fixtures (24 tubes) for my 21x28. Will install after i finish the last coat of mud and prime, so it may be a month before my RFI report.
But:
Called Lithonia tech support, who told me that their GESB and RE ballasts, rated residential, are what we want for cold weather, radio enjoying lighting using four foot tubes. All of their other ballast designations--geb10is, geb10rs, etc-- are commercial quality, meaning don't turn on the radio.
Back to home depot: the lithonia product number on price reduction ends in GE. Lithonia says GE is a home depot specified commercial ballast (I read extra cheap, which is why they are on extra discount, but I digress). The fixtures on display are not marked GE but rather GESB. Don't know if that's old stock or what, but an additional call to Lithonia aasures they are the residential ones. These stock numbers--TC 232 120 1/4 gesb-- are actually in the lithonia catalog, available to all dealers, FYI, so I'm hoping they are not home depot extra cheapot.
The ballasts are accupro AP-RC-4321P-1.
Also, they clarrified some matters discussed in other posts here about t8's:
Someone wondered if "outside" rated fixtures cause RFI. They tell me outside simply means it's ok to use in damp places, including indoors, and has no bearing on RFI.
Someone wondered if the low thd ballasts equaled low RFI. Don't know what the harmonic distortion interferes with, but again they say that has nothing to do with RFI.
Then there's a noise rating. They told me noise is noise, not RFI.
So, don't really know if this helps, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this purchase, and passing along price reduction report. At least, HD lets me return them without a fuss if I'm wrong.
