Sikkens Epoxy and Spider Cracks

Any of you guys ever hear of this? I have an experienced house painter that is willing to paint my floor for $300 cash - $150 for labor and $150 for the paint. He seems to be well versed in epoxy application.
I have never heard of this Sikkens paint and had no success finding it on the their website.

I also have many of hairline Spider cracks in the floor and no control joints( in a 19x23 slab) so I have been told to seal it with a UGL type crack filler. I have no problem widening the crack with a spackle knife so I'm sure there are some issues as well regarding concrete strength. Should I repair this with UGL or some sort of epoxy, latex or urethane. Any direction on this would be appreciated. Thanks !

It was a joke...or was it You don't "paint" the floor, you "coat" the floor with epoxy....unless you are actually putting paint on the floor.

UUUUF!! Sounds like a tail light contractor. Don't let the cheap price blind you. You'll get what you paid for.

It's tough getting someone to show up just to get a quote, much less a solid offer to actually do the job. This guy is reccomended but I think he made a mistake on the brand as they do not offer epoxy for concrete. I will call him today but if anybody handles the Nassau County NY area or knows a reliable painter ( coater- ha ha). Please let me know. Thanks!

Any reputable company will charge much more than what was quoted. Hell, our material cost is higher than what was quoted.

Google "epoxy flooring nassau ny" and see what you get. One thing is for sure, you wont find painters nor Sikkens. Maybe you mean Sika?

Thanks for the input. I searched sika-which I never heard of- and evidently that's it. This gentleman has a strong accent and I misunderstood. That being the case, any familiarity with Sika?

I had looked into get my place done by a pro. I can't remember the price now, but it was more than what a new slab would cost! :wtf:

Yes, some systems can cost much more than regular concrete. We are currently installing a 1/4 inch urethane mortar system for $18 per sqft and I just bid on another for $30 per sqft.

As far as garage systems go, well our chip systems are $6.50 and if there is a coating to be removed or major repairs, the price goes up from there. You see, there is a big difference between a paint job and a poured flooring system. About 3 to 4 times more material and probably better quality as well.

Unfortuantely, my industry has been flooded by fly by nights, tail light contractors, painters and even masons that are slowly but surely ruining our market.

Most homeowners can't tell the difference between a poured floor or a rolled on system. Can you tell the difference between a full broadcast and a medium broadcast? How about a single broadcast and a double? How about if its top coated with epoxy, polyurethane or polyaspartic? Even then, there are cheaper and higher quality of those. How do you know which you have? Can you justify a higher price if its acid washed or diamond grinded? Does quality and workmanship mean anything or can you put a value on that?

In this day an age where everything is made in china by probably some slave labor or some production line, does knowing you have a hand crafted, possibly one of a kind floor mean anything or be more valuable?

Sorry to rant, just finished quoting a job where the potential client wanted to know why paint costs so much? We do not paint. We do not use paint. We are not painters.

Sure, but $4000 for a 625sq ft floor was about 10x more than I wanted to spend. I did the DIY Lowe's stuff for ~$350 and it looks great. Maybe it will only last 5 years vs 20 with the pro stuff, but if I recoated my floor 4 times it still would be a fraction of the cost.

Don't care about the broadcast of flakes, I think they have no place in a garage. I've never seen flakes on the floor in industrial settings.

Does quality and workmanship mean anything or can you put a value on that?
