Snap-on whoring their name out is bugging me

It is! And in a strange sort of way, I feel embarrassed by what Snap-on has been doing. I don't walk down the tool isle at Costco anymore because I don't want to accidentally catch a glimpse of those mickey mouse pressure washers and flashlights.

Snap-on putting their name on that junk is like Rolls Royce slapping their name on Daewoo's and then selling them at the shady we fiance used car lot.

snap on is what it is. only the best comes from them directly, everything else is added "icing on the cake"

It is a terrible strategy. Their executives need to be reamed. The people who are potential buyers of cheap tools, flashlights and pressure washers are least likely to be impressed by the Snap On name. Snap On or Karcher, whichever one's cheaper. But the people who do care about the Snap On name (e.g., people on this forum), find the brand diluted and eventually the willingness to pay among the core customer base will decrease. Moving tool production offshore does the exact same thing.

The Costco by me has Snap-on garage stools festooned with plastic cladding on the base and around the seat as well as the flashlights, etc.
Snap-on built their name and reputation on being high end quality tools; more than likely they now will be selling the name and reputation to be slapped on anything.
It's the nature of the beast. Remember when Denon or Pioneer or Kenwood audio equipment was considered high end?

At the AAPEX show this year the Alltrade booth (yes, I said Alltrade) had several aisles of Snap on branded **** that you'll be seeing this holiday season. Everything from several different pocket knives, to sunscreens, to assorted flashlights, to pressure washers all of it made to Snap on standards in the PRC.:bounce:

Sunscreen?!

Those lovely aluminum roll up screens that people put in their windshields in a vain attempt to keep the inside of their car cooler while it's parked for hours. There were several different types with different Snap on logos and colors.

Cheapens the brand and i hate it. My grandfather taught me the value of good tools. He was a snap on man. Took pride in his work and his tools.

How can one take pride in a poorly made Chicom tool? Made by kids or slave labour on the other side of the planet, by a government that kills and censors their own people. A government that goes against all that we in the west stand for.

One of these days, our support of a communist regime will bite us in the ***. Those chinese flashlights bought over here will finance the bullets used against us when the **** finally hits the fan

Ill hop off my soapbox now, but this frustration isnt aimed soley at snapon... you can substitute any of the major toolmakers out there.. Irwin.. Stanley..mac...

"The Caddy that zigs"...What a POS aka Cimmaron

I was invited to the NA intro to the Cimmaron set up at a giant parking field of the now demolished Tarrytown NY GM plant. They had us comparison test the Cimmaron vs a Volvo, BMW and a Mercedes on an auto-x course. Believe it or not, although the competitor cars were all base models, the Caddy still more than held it's own...I was very surprised. On the other hand, they were in NO way ready for me. The got me off of some BMW owners mailing list, they did not expect someone with near 20 years of auto-x and other racing experience. I scared the piss out of their engineers. They thought for sure I was going to put one of their precious pre-production prototypes on its roof.

Oops....I forgot this was the Catera, not the Cimmaron. Got em mixed up. The Cimmaron really was a POS.

What's funny is Snap On will go after people using their name on a tool store window where they sell used Snap On tools, but they have no problem putting their name on a bunch of ****.

Reminds me of Milwaukee tools, used to be some of the best power tools available, now a bunch of Chinese **** on par with Harbor Freight junk.

No calendars because of some Women and sissy men. What else could be the reason.
I had heard that a woman complained to snap on about a calendar with men on it and snap on wouldn't do it ( dont blame them ) and she sued them and WON... may be a rumor, but it sure sounds like something that would happen today.

Thats been the downfall of all the good nudie calendars. I was at a shop today and did a double take, not just because of the beauty on it, but the fact that she was ****!...completely:thumbup: and it was a current calender too!

I almost wanted to call the company and thank them for not caving into PC BS.........and ask for one for my shop too:)

A PC world we live in now.... Somehow it is wrong for a dude to look at an attractive woman, but domestic "partners" are the in thing..... What a messed up world...

Same here, had a BK5500 scope, replaced 3 times the mirror of my 45* adapter...everytime it drops off. Got my money back and bought a 30$ USB camere scope cable on ebay. Works fine!
Have a long list with Snap-on tools which are broken.

On my way into Advanced Auto the other day, I saw they had a whole bin of "Snap-on" pocket knives, they were pathetic looking things. I don't take Snap-on that seriously anymore, first the discontinuation of core products, then the Blue Point "Kmart" hand tool flood, now the Snap-on name on poor Harbor Freight line products. Not to mention the QC of my last dozen online orders, wavy wrenches, poor chrome, extensions the would not fit in the sockets, you needed a deadblow hammer to get them on, and a vise and punch to get the sockets off, and yes they were SO sockets on a SO extension. I gave alot of Snap-on tools away out of disgust. Snap-on stopped being my goto tool company about 2 years ago.:( As it turns out, there is life after Snap-on tools:) This is what happens when a once great tool company drops it's *******, and sells out cheap. :shocking:

Merk,

How do you think I feel.

I know it is not easy, my Cornwell dealer is a friend of mine. I asked him if he got tired of defending the Asian/Cornwell re-labels on his truck. I needed ratcheting wrenches, and just asked for the GearWrench catalog. I told him since the "Cornwell's" were Asian, and the Cornwell selection was poor, I would just as assume buy the GearWrench products, same goes for the bit sockets, drivers, pliers, fine tooth ratchets, etc.....If it is not real Cornwell, why buy it over GearWrench for more money?

It must be tough times for tool dealers, by no fault of their own. Imagine being a Matco dealer, and trying to convince someone that the Pro swing wrenches were different than the GearWrench Gearbox ones, etc........ I would just give up myself, and just sell the darn GW ones on a Matco truck, why help preserve the masqurade?
