Anyone know about older SK tool sets? About a month or so ago me and my uncle were at a garage sale and we found a green metal tool case with vintage SK, C-man, Plumb stuff inside and I passed because I was looking for just certain things to complete my set I was working on so my uncle bought the set. Unfortunately he passed away last week and I reclaimed the set since I was with him when he bought it and I think he would have wanted me to have it. I'm just curious if anyone into SK stuff could tell me if I could find the missing pieces of the set if I posted a picture of the metal box or something...Not sure if they had catalogs for SK back in the day or even how to date this set. Thanks

Post some pics of the box, green metal boxes were used for many years by SK. I have a NOS stock SK 1/2 drive set with the green gripper breaker bar, so that makes it around the late 70's early 80's.

Here you go,

***** the kit had a 3/8 SK ratchet and a 1/4 SK ratchet and the 1/4 ratchet has a crack around the head of the body but it does still work. It's still sad though. No fixing that.

You could always get a new one:bounce: Looks like you have an older set from around the 50's looks to be a 1/2 drive set and looks to be mostly intact. I don't know the set number, don't have a book that old in my collection. A 42470 ratchet is what you need to complete the set.

Well it's not all SK it's some Craftsman "BE" sockets, some SK sockets and some oddball stuff. There is a small handled 3/8 plumb breaker bar too in there. I just wanted to find out if they made a catalog so I could find this set and see what it came with originally. Looks like this set was owned by someone who lost stuff along the way and replaced it with whatever they could. I love the SK logo on the inside. It's a cool box. I can't believe I passed on it at $10 last month. My uncle haggled the lady down to $8 or $9 if I remember correctly, lol
I'm gonna miss the guy at the swap meets..:(

Yeah there are SK catalogs all the way back to the 30's, hard to find, but they are around. The set might still be in some later catalogs, I was thinking the 70's, but could be wrong. Also sorry to hear about your uncle.

Well, it's not "next to nothing," but I do have a SK 1/2 drive 42470 ratchet in good condition that you could buy to add to the set. It's reasonably priced. Just PM me if you are interested. :)

I have a lot of extra SK stuff in 1/2 drive and some 3/8 & 1/4 also. The pic you posted is not up now. Send me a pic of a couple of sockets so I can see what I have that matches and let me know what you're looking for.

I can do that but I have no clue what was in the set originally. I'll take photo's of the sockets later tonight and post them.

With the olive green paint and the bright decal plus the circumstantial evidence of Plomb and Craftsman BE sockets I would date that to the 1940's. The latest It would be would be around the mid 50's.
Is the speeder cad plated? It looks like a different finish. The plating would also help date it.

I have an early 60's catalog and they have an "All-Purpose Set No. 4118". It included:
12 std sockets, 7/16- 1 1/8; Slide T; 5" extension; 10" extension; Speeder; 17" flex handle; Ratchet. $27.75

Their warranty from the era of my catalog is:
"Tools are guaranteed against defective material or workmanship. Any tool showing a defect in material or workmanship will be repaired or replaced free of charge upon inspection by the company. Tools abused or worn out from excessive use will not be replaced."
