Went out to this store called "The Outlet" - which functions as an outlet for Sears, Costco and other stores. They have furniture, electronics, clothes and some tools. It's a junky warehouse and sometimes they have great stuff, sometimes they have junk.

I bought the below set of Pratt & Read (which I'd never heard of before - sorry) screwdrivers - 7ea. flats, 7ea. Phillips, 8ea. Torx. 3ea. nut drivers with an assortment of tips and an L shaped tip holder (Honestly don't know what that's used for) for; get this, $9.99!!! They were marked down from an unknown price to $29.99, then marked down to $9.99 for the post Christmas sale today. This was the last set and I scooped them up because they said "Made in the U.S." and I did a quick search of GJ at the store via my iPhone.

Just to make matters better, they had an assortment of Craftsman punches priced variously at $2.49 and $0.99 - of course I took the $0.99 ones - but there are a few more at that price and a lot of them at $2.49 left. What I didn't get - YET - they had a mixed box of assorted Craftsman sockets for $0.99 each. I need to check to see what I'm missing but I'm going back tomorrow if I can before they close.

I read here that PR makes Craftsman screwdrivers for Sears and I'm fine with that. I don't make a living with my tools and the C-man I have already mostly date from a set I got from my parents when I was 17....I'm 55 now, so these oughta last just fine for me. Good score, huh?

Thanks Sarge (I am taking the liberty of assuming). Seemed like a good deal to me; if not absolutely fabulous like Snapon would be.

Marines dont like being called "sarge" its an army thing. The only thing i've ever heard abbreviated was Gunnery Sergeant known as "gunny"

But you got a good deal it seems.

there's a sears outlet down here. i'll have to take a look down there sometime. there's also one of those sears hometown stores nearby with a decent amount on clearance as far as tools. only bad part is nothing has appealed my interests there.

i am/was a sgt. i just got out back in june. i miss it a lot but other times i'm glad i'm out.

the sarge thing is a army deal. in the corps we go by sgt. gunnery sgt can be called "gunny." depending on what master sgt you talk to, you may get away with "top." master gunnery sgt can be "master gunny" or "master guns." the latter again depends on who you talk to.

usmc noma - thanks for the head's up. I didn't mean to offend.

The store I got these screwdrivers from is a one-off as far as I know; not a chain. BUt I know there were Sears outlet stores around here in the past and like TRUE outlet stores, you've got to go in regularly to get a real deal. Best of luck n your search. - Dan

That is what I would call a smokin' deal. I have been eyeballing the set on eBay for $20 and shipping, but this is a nicer style and a way better price...I think more pieces, too.

Thanks Bull. I kinda think the set was mismarked by one of the many 17 year old girlsthey have working at this place. No matter, I'll be glad to take them!

I had never heard of PR tools until I saw these. The iPhone made it possible for me to go online in the store and do a quick search to find they were mostly well spoken of. Of course, the acetate handles weren't as well spoken of as the comfort grip ones, but for $10 I am happy as can be about them. Thanks for the head's up about eBay PR items. I'll go compare prices/bids and get a better sense of what these should have cost.
