I just found this website and spent the morning looking at some fantastic garage spaces in the 119 page photo gallery. I built my detached dream garage in 2003 when I bought a new house on 12 acres. I have a 3 car attached for the daily drivers and also a two-bay equipment building on the property.

I wanted to share some photos of my detached 7 car [capable] garage, with a four-post lift and a finished upper level accessed by a powder-coated spiral staircase.

The floor is heated with coils embedded in the concrete slab. The slab is 8 inches in depth under the lift bay.

I hope most folks have the bandwidth as I posted full-sized photos. I saw examples of both thumbnails and full-sized and opted for full-size.

Thanks for looking & hope that you enjoy the photos ! :bounce:

Wow, you collect supercars like most of us collect ratchets, awesome. Do you ever get to take them up to near top speed?

Ducati Desmosedici

Very nice....doesn't look like the recession has affected you. Any Desmo's?

Yes, actually I have a Desmo. If you take a look at the picture of the motorcycles, the bike to the far right in the photo & next to the car is a Desmo. I have the full Ti race exhaust on it with ~200bhp. Absolutely crazy fast ! The fourth Ducati (not shown) is a 996S.

No, the fastest I have been is 165mph on a motorcycle and 155 in one of my Viper GTS on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Lamborgini Murcielago is capable of 200+ mph. I don't think that I have the stomach for 200mph - maybe when I was 10 years younger !

Dare I ask what is parked in your 'daily driver' garage???

Ha ! I have a Mercedes S55 (brutally fast sleeper - this is a blower motor) shown in the garage photos, a stickshift Cadillac CTS-V (fun car), and a 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie 4x4 - a fantastic truck. On the boring side, I also have a Honda Civic (yes, really -- I don't worry about door dings with it) and my wife drives a Lexus 400h hybrid. We also have another Dodge truck, a PT Cruiser (turbo motor) & a Mercedes at our other home in southern Florida.

What, no flatscreen? ;)

That Ford GT is gorgeous from every angle.

I'm really digging the spiral staircase. What's behind the bar on the ground floor?

Cathode ray has a better picture. They just can't make them as large as flat screens.

Game over you win  Nice set up.

How big is it 50x50 or ?X?
What type of flooring did you use, epoxy? I love that shiny floor but don't know how it would handle a jack.

You must have the same problem as I do. A little different cars but the same tough choice, which car to drive today, happens to me all the time, do I take the Pinto or the Yugo, the Pinto, the green one or the yellow one?

That's quite a collection. The memorabilia brings back a lot of memories, I remember those S&H Green Stamps and the books, they're still around but now points instead of stamps, link. Where's the Harley?

Awesome looking garage and collection of cars / bikes.
You could host your on "dream drive" where they have 5 different exotic cars to sample.
Ever seen that on Speed Channel?

There have been a couple of questions on the dimensions. The "main" part of the garage is roughly 30 ft. x 80 ft., while the rear area with the "bar" and under-counter fridge is roughly 12 ft. x 35 ft. and also houses moto gear (helmets, jackets, full leathers & boots) and utility room.

In my opinion, the most notable part of the fundamental deisgn concept is the custom designed roof trusses that span the entire depth of the garage without any columns inside the garage. These trusses also easily carry all of the loads from the upstairs area.

When I drew up the initial plans for the garage I did not want any internal columns; and I wanted a mainly hip (vs. gable) roof design. This lack of internal columns provides a very open view inside; combined with 12 foot ceiling heights & deep crown molding.

Lastly, the exterior is 100% brick and almost all other surfaces (overhangs and soffits), save a few, are aluminum sheathing for a virtually maintenance-free building. The roof valleys and the gutters (covered in leaf-screening) do require an annual cleaning.

I have a small central air conditioner for upstairs and I use a wall mounted A/C for the lower area, but it is rarely needed. The wall framing is all 6x6 (vs. 2x4) so that I could gain a much higher R-value in the walls, combined with the brick is a very thermally efficient design - at least by "standard" construction methods. The 3 overhead doors seal quite tightly and are insulated.

I don't have any pics of my tools, but there is a large black toolcase behind the motorcycles where I keep the majority of my tools. I have a decent mix of standard and metric hand tools, ratchets, sockets, box end, open end, etc. I also have a medium sized set of air tools. I also have a nice sized air compressor with a wall-mounted hose reel by the lift. The hose will reach the full length of the garage when I use a coil hose extension - which is very handy.

Do you need a "car boy" to dust off and give the cars a little exercise to mix up the oils?? I work for free! :spit:

Wow! Great space and collection. With all those "low" cars you could stack them three high in there and cram some more in. The big pad in front of the garage is great too. You could have quite a show there.

Someday...

Greetings. The 999R is a wonderful bike and I really don't understand why the styling is viewed as less than inspirational - I love my two 999's. In any case, my Xerox 999R is #0013.

Thanks for sharing your photo - Dave

I feel the same way. I fell in love with the bike when i first laid eyes on the Fila edition. The bike got a bad rap because of styling, but is an awesome track bike. You got one of the early ones. In case you were curious, there were only 324 made. So, its actually rarer than the Desmo ;). Beautiful collection.

I love the Lambos. Hope to add one to my collection some day.

I love all the gas station signs and globes that you have. I'm kind of partial to the Sohio one that I saw. My Grandpa owned a Sohio service station back in the 50's near downtown Cincinnati. So what part of Ohio are you at. I'm near the Kings Island area. Beautiful place and a beautiful collection of cars you have there.

I like the forethought to go columnless. Makes for lots of space to move around and tuck stuff (cars) in without having to worry about "now where is that pole.. clang! doh!"

I think your garage is a good mix of new/old.. its new and clean enough that you can work in it without getting dirty just looking in the door and the collection of vintage automobilia really sets an vintage "tone" for the whole space. I'd love to see some detail shots of your collectibles, cans and such. Its as fun to look at someones "junk" as it is too see the cars in their collection sometimes.

PS.. S55 is a sleeper for sure and a great ride. Have you gotten a chance to drive a newer S63? Personally I think you need to make room for an SL65 Black Series :)
