Trying to restore one of our lifts to original condition.. The company that made the original casters hasn't for quite a while. Internet searches have not helped..

Anyone know of anyone who deals in older ( antique ? ) hardware such as casters ?

Something close to the design would even be good

Rather than replace the whole caster, just replace the wheel and rebuild the yoke.

McMaster and MSC industrial have a large selection of caster wheels. I'm sure you'll find something to fit.

Check here about halfway down the left column under who they supply, is that your company (Killian?)?

National Caster

I would also just search for that name on McMaster or maybe eBay Germany?

As an aside, I'd like to see those lifts in more detail.
As an old VW enthusiast, I find those to be very interesting.
I'm assuming those are original German items?
Any idea as to the date of mfg.?

It was designed by a man named Howard Dyer, an employee of Kelly Volkswagen. Kelly VW was located at 3325 Genesee St. in Buffalo, NY; the same address for the Motor Porter. VW approved the use of this device but never sold it, the Motor Porter company was a private venture. A full set of optional cradles was made to handle all type 1 & 4 engines, some Porsche and several transaxles. The cost of the Motor Porter was $299 in 1973 and they were all painted bright yellow with a black crank handle.

Hell we just used to get under there and lift them up by hands.

But that was when I didn't have to worry about trying to tie my shoes.

I think I remember seeing those in some of my old VW Bentley manuals (old VW air cooled nut here!)... with German looking dudes in coveralls using them!

Very nice. I just finished assembling a type 1 transaxle yesterday. I gave a young kid some help this afternoon finding an intake leak, then walked him though tuning the carb on his super beetle. I would love to have one of those. All I drive are air suckers. =-)

Another VW nut here too. Did you check the samba for spare parts? You might be able to turn up a few casters there.

I wonder if someone could make a decent business out of reproducing and selling these things? From the look of the them; it wouldn't be too hard to do! Is anyone reproducing these at this time?

No,,no one,,They are VERY similar to old Semi transmission Jacks,, far as I can tell the fittings that go on them for different applications are the key
