Just got one of the emails they send out. This looks like a pretty good deal.

Luke,
You are amazing. For once something good happened before and NOT after I needed or wanted it. I just priced the 'one' small HLVP gun at a local NAPA store and it alone was over $200.00. Now I knew better but to get both those guns for $100.00 is a fine deal.
I immediately ordered the set...thank you and a well done!

That looks like a good deal. What is the air requirements for those?

I want to get an inexpensive HVLP spray gun as well that can spray primer on my car and do small parts as well as spray lacquer's and finishes for my woodworking projects.

Do you think this set can do it?

Mopar,
I think, even for just occasional use, a dedicated 'primer' gun is in order. I certainly would not and do not shoot todays primers through an HLVP gun. It can be done, but you need a huge tip and needle combination, which is available. But cleaning primer, especially an epoxy type primer out of a HLVP gun is tedious to say the least. An HVLP gun lives or dies on how well it is kept cleaned!

From what I can tell, these guns are not cheap ones. As little as two months ago Devilbis wanted close to $500.00 for a set like those...competition is a good thing! Any basic quality " 2-stage" compressor can handle these guns. I know my son sold his single stage oiless 6 HP Sears compressor because it just could not keep up with even a small HVLP gun.

On the other hand a good 3 to 5 hp 2-stage compressor shouldn't have any problem at all.

I'll let you know if DeVillbis is slipping one over on us hopefully Monday. That's when I expect delivery. First thing is to do a custom job on a motorcycle, then a '67 427 Vette fastback, etc. etc.

Thanks DV,

Yeah, definitely keep us updated...if you have good experiences w/ it, i'll order it in a heartbeat. I've looked at other cheap guns and always been a bit wary, but these do have the namebrand behind it....

It's funny because i plan on purchasing just what you described, a moderate 5hp 2-stage by the end of the year. If I can get a nice set of guns for cheap to complement it and have the flexibility for both my automotive and wood projects, that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Adam

Luke, et.aL.,
I did receive the set Monday, but this is the first chance I have had to post it.
"Kit" is as stated, it is DeVilbis but it is not the same as the Devilbis that I know. The model has the name "Finishline" cast into it. Great quality but it looks like a second line that they must have.

I retired from 'streel' many years ago, I flat retired except custom work about 8 years ago. I no sooner get the shop built, 'FINAL' inspected and my new spray booth half finished, read the shop is a mess right now, when my Mother n Law calls; DV I did a little boo-boo! Oh-well what's two new hinges and a few dints in a 2002 Montana door? Seems she killed a U.S. post office box--backing up no less! I'll be painting her door and related parts tomorrow with these new guns. More to follow.

Awesome, what kind of tips do they come with? Is it possible to order different tip/cap combos for them for different finishes?

Mopar,
The main gun in the kit uses a 1.3mm needle and the small touch up gun comes with a .8 mm tip. They also included a 1.8 mm needle for the larger gun for heavy bodied primers. (The larger needle is below the 'toothbrush' in the picture.

More needles and air caps are available from any automotive paint store, but not likely you will need them unless you are into serious custom painting.

I also order the HVLP gun holder. If you have never tried to 'just hang' and HVLP gun, you are in for some fun!

Great, I didn't know whether tips were interchangeable between guns or you had to order specific tips for specific guns...

As soon as you give them a test run and confirm that they are reliable than I think I'm gonna order them, cause I'm gonna hate myself if this ends soon and I didn't.

HVLP is a whole different type of spraying over the old siphon system. I suppose it would have the same learning curve though. Practice, practice! Heck, I got started out so many years ago by painting all the neighbors cars for free. I only charged them for the materials and "a" tool that I might have needed. For starters if you are new, paint the kids bikes, paint the old Flyer Wagon, paint everything that isn't nailed down! :)

Feel free to ask any questions you might have on painting. I'll give it a shot.

I've had one of the finishline guns for a few years now, and it's a great gun for the $$. I;ve painted numerous bikes with it, and it never skipped a beat.

DV,

Any word on those guns? Have you used them yet? If so, how have they performed?

Adam

DV is out of action for awhile. Had a "brain stem stroke" and is recuperating from that. Sounds like he should make a full recovery from what I am reading on other boards:

"Ed got home from the hospital today. The doctors told him it was a massive brain stem stroke. He'll be laid up for awhile. He's having trouble walking because he's really dizzy. I had a little trouble understanding him because his speech is slurry. He's on all kinds of meds of course. The doctors told him he should make a full recovery. He's a lucky man to have pulled through. Thanks to all who prayed for him and his family. The power of prayer is awesome!!"

A long time, and a lot of things have appened since this post was put up. I have now used the gun and my thoughts are; for the money they can't be beat. I just did a custom paint job on a motorcycle and used these guns exclusively. The paint is a HOK paint and ended up being a 'tri-coat'. Although the guns worked great on smaller parts, I would still stick to my real Devilbis HVLP gun. These would work fine for most car repaints, but if you were doing a true show type job stick with the professional guns.

David,
About 90%. Speech & muscle control are back to normal, it's the typing and walking that's a bummer. I kinow I've always been a little dizzy but this is nuts. Me equealibrium is all messed up. If I don't concentrate, It's like I'm on a small scale drunk. I keep listing and walking to the right! So... I just aim left and finally get to where I was headed in the first place :)

Chuck, just figred out your comment! That vette came to me from Ohio. It has an aftermakret "Mako' flair kit on it. The owner wants it put back to original and repainted in the right color/stripe combo. The real beauty of it is it IS an L88 with all matching numbers. The 427 'trips' are a thing of beauty!

I wont be able to get to it until late summer but if anyone wants pictures of it being stripped-repaired and repainted let me know.

Over on the Eastwood forum, an "Eastwood Expert" states the following: The DeVilbiss kit is a great kit for the money, and will spray just about any automotive finish. The only drawback is the tips included are the only ones available. At this point none of the other tips they offer will fit.

I am currently working on additional tips. What other tips would you like to see us offer? It comes with a 1.3 and a 1.8 so I was thinking maybe a 1.5.
