Would you trust your HF cabinet's drawer strength enough to stand in it?

Like the title says. A guy on my website bought a Snap-On toolchest and to show how quality built it was, he took a picture of him standing on one of the opened drawers. :lol_hitti

So my question is - would you guys trust your cabinet's strength enough to stand in it? The guy probably doesn't weight more than 160lbs, so my 225lb fat *** isn't a comparison for me to stand in my toolbox's drawer.

Me and my 230 Lb. buddy stood in the bottom drawer of my Extreme 72" when I first got it, it not only held all 550 Lb.s but we could easily slide the drawer in and out while we were in it.

Try that with any Harbor freight box:bounce:

Yup, after I posted the thread it dawned on me to look in the product manual for weight distributions. The two bottom drawers could theoretically handle a combined weight of 220lbs.

lista boxes can support 400lbs.
In any drawer.
Theres a reason why machine shops use them for tooling storage.

I have Snap-on, Craftsman, Beach, Husky, Waterloo and International cabinets. I wouldn't stand in the drawers of any of them but they work fine for my tools.

I guess my question is "Why would I?" It's a toolbox, not a ladder. I could paint the ceiling by standing on the roof of my car, but I wouldn't do that either.

Feel free to see what else you can do in your box. Be creative. It's yours.

Mine (not a HF BTW), does a pretty good job of storing tools though.

And think about how much he would weigh if he had the $3000.00 difference in his pockets. Those quarters add up. :bounce:

Somewhere out there, you'll find a guy stupid enough to do anything.

But that's a Vidmar cabinet -- rated for 400#. I don't think I'd dry the same thing in my Craftsman or Harbor Freight boxes.

What are you, 55 pounds wet? :p I bet you could stand in any lower drawer of this guy...

I will admit that at times I did use the drawer edges on my old KR-555 SO box as a stool or ladder of sorts to reach things in the cabinet above it...

Now I would never do that with my newer Matco box, but only because it's ball bearing slides and I worry that the drawer would kick out on me while I was reaching for something. Also the reason I didn't hang a cabinet above my new box. ;)

I'd be more concerned that standing in the bottom drawer would tip the whole cabinet over. The bottom drawer of the infamous HF cabinet is a deep drawer with a double set of ball bearing guides, I have no doubt the drawer would support even my 280lb fat ***.

If I paid thousands for a tool chest, it have better hold some weight... And since I didn't, I won't even try... As long as it holds my tools, I'm happy.

I don't know if it was his site but someone posted a picture of a car on 4 SnapOn chests with each wheel on each chest...

I have used my tool chest as a step stool, pulled it over to where I needed to climb and get something out of the rafters and pulled out the bottom drawer and one the middle ones to climb onto the top and reach. But my tool chest was custom built for me and is awfully heavy steel, its awfully easier with my new ladder, something about the right tool for the job...

Years ago I went to a Snap-on tool show where they had one of the dealers truck up on 4 boxes. They were selling boxes like hotcakes, including the ones under the truck!

Maybe it a "chop". I'll wager there's a piece of plywood cut to fit the bottom of the drawer too.

When I first went to HF to look at the 13 drawer tool box the 6'2" 230# manager opened the bottom drawer, stood inside and bounced up and down. There was no damage to the drawer. I see no reason to do it to any of mine since like others here I bought them to store tools in, not live in. :lol_hitti

nice... john im sure its only a matter of time until someone says you supported the drawer from underneath with something so the sooner you post a pic the sooner we can stop the bashers..... pretty cool to see a loaded drawer take that tho

I was just thinking that; I should have keep rolling and jumped down and closed the drawer. Nonetheless, I will have a pic posted within an hour.

LOL, Thatd exactly what I said, my girlfriend said "What???" I said take the damn pic.

Thats funny I could imagine calling my wife into the garage to take a picture of me sitting in my tool chest and her turning around and shaking her head and calling me a retard for the 1000th time.

The 3 dudes in the snappy box look like they are out of Jersey shore 1984. damn I they were actually in the drawer together and they weren't, they would have been uneasy about standing that close to another dude. I stand on my Lista units at work prolly twice a week and they are full of welding fixtures. Thanks for taking one for the team John, now I don't have to do it. Why the top drawer of the bottom box? Why not the bottom drawer?

My wife called me a retard for reading the thread..........

So we're comparing HF tool boxes and Snap On boxes?

Can your Snap On box save you $4000 like a HF box can?

Haha damn you guys sure are critical of a thread that was meant for fun. A guy on my website posted a picture of him standing in his new Snap-on toolbox showing how quality built it was.

About a month later (last week) I posted pictures of my harbor freight toolbox and someone referenced his pic and was curious if I could do the same in my toolbox (comparing the quality of how much weight the drawers can hold)

Bwahaha thank you John!

Anyone can stand in the bottom drawer, but I choose the top; little more ballsy. And, shows that it is rather sturdy; it didn't tip over.
