Just got myself a Gray tool chest (pictures inside)

So after visiting SB Simpson and looking at the gray tools pro series chests in person I was sold, they had Beach and a JH williams also on display and me and my dad (who doesnt know much about tools) instantly agreed the gray felt a hell of alot more sturdy/better built. Came out to be 326.95 before tax with the Gray tools promotion (originally 544.44). It has friction slides but they feel solid and high quality. Made right here in Ontario Canada also. Did i mention the sucker is heavy as sin :lol_hitti

took two people to lift it onto the table. The box comes with no liners, what do you guys suggest for reasonably priced drawer liners?

Nice! I love that old-school Mac style of handle on there. My kid took over my old Mac box and I do miss those cool handles.

After we built our house, our garages looked pretty empty too. Luckily a neighbor across the street was making the transition from "college-cheap-wall-to-wall-bookcase" decor to real furniture decor and we picked up 7 full size book cases for free.

For liners, buy them from Gray, they are pre-cut and cheaper than the sheets you buy from CT, let alone a tool truck. You need part #97810. I have a 4 drawer bottom unit from the same series, think the pre-cut liner kit cost me around $12. Doubt yours will be much more. I love the material these liners are made of, they are soft enough to keep tools from sliding around, even if you move the box.

btw, as I alluded to earlier I have a box from this line, I got it used from a machinist, by no means did he baby it, but it still works good, although it's nicked up pretty good.

Thanks this is exactly what i was looking for. You couldnt by chance take a picture of the liners in your box for me could you? Its solid black? Non mesh?

Nice box. Time to start buying tools! Pretty similar layout to the Heavy Duty Road Case that Snap-on sells for $2,100...but with the old-school style handles, and no front cover. Looks a lot like what MAC and Matco made 25+ years ago...I wonder if some of those came from Gray.

Looks to be good quality and I dig the configuration of the drawers and the overall size of that thing. Looks just perfect for the space you have. Also like the handle style, as others have pointed out. :thumbup:

I bought mesh liner from the tool dealer I bought the roller cabinet from. It was made in USA and rather expensive, but high quality. I think it was something like $15 CDN a roll, but it'll last a long time.

I can take pics, but you probably wouldn't be able to tell much from them. They are solid, not mesh, come in precut sheets to fit each particular Gray box, not rolls, they are a fair bit thicker, more cushioning and made of a rubbery foam as opposed to the soft plasticy liner sheets you can buy at Cdn Tire. They hold tools in place quite well. I have a top box I take to the races every week, it's loaded and unloaded, plus the bouncing from driving to the track and back and my wrenchs which are laid flat in the drawers with no holders, never move much and never get mixed up.

Its 100lb and very sturdy i doubt me standing on top of it would make it flip over :lol_hitti

Just wondering how you like your Gray Pro Line a year after purchase. The reason I ask is because I just bought the very same chest yesterday, along with the matching roller cabinet. I put them out in my shop which was rather cold. This morning, I found that the drawer, especially on the cabinet, took quite the tug to bring the drawers out past that catch. After starting a fire today, the warmth seems to have loosened them up. One drawer slides a bit rough in one spot. What I don't like about the Chest Top is that the top cover has to be opened to open or close the drawers. Is there any way of bypassing that locking bar?

I've had the box for nearly 2 years now and honestly couldn't be happier with it. I wouldnt trade the friction slides for ball bearings, its just so damn nice to be able to open the drawer and have it stay open. The handles are awesome too since you can grab from top, bottom or side of the handle.

I lubed all the slides once when I got the box with 20w-40 oil I had laying around, never had any issues in cold weather. I normally work on my car throughout the winter when it is storage and I havent noticed any sticking.

Actually, it was quite some time ago that on this 50th anniversary special I bought, Gray put all bearing slides in each drawer. It's worked fine for me.
