Default Power steering pump pulley puller?

I'm wondering if one of you could point me in the right direction,

I'm looking to remove the pulley from the power steering pump on my 68 Ford Mustang. I heard they make a special pulley remover/installer for this but not sure exactly what I need or where to find it. I'm looking to buy, not rent, unless this thing costs more than a kidney!

Will it be specific for my application or will it work with other makes or pumps also?

Basically I'm asking what you guys use and where to get one. Links or part numbers would be great. I figured someone on here has got an answer.

I was looking at thetoolwarehouse.net site and didn't see anything, unless I'm ignorant........

contact OTC and they will let you know exactly what you need. They will have the old parts books that specify what puller works with what pumps. The are not cheap, but they will outlast the car.

Yep ... what Roospike said ... don't buy unless you really need to keep the puller..

It definitely ain't Snap-On, but neither is the price! I've probably used this puppy a dozen times on power steering, alternator and A/C pulleys and it still works!

Thanks guys. I contacted OTC and I'm waiting to see what they say plus I'll check out my local parts store. I didn't know you could rent them but if I could buy one for slightly more I wouldn't mind springing for it. It's not a tool I'd use alot but maybe wouldn't be a bad idea to own.

I should tell you the kicker too. There's actually nothing wrong with the pump on my 68 Mustang. It's just that I took it off the car to clean it up and detail it and was trying to figure out how the pulley came off so I could bead blast it and powder coat it semi gloss black. The pump is supposed to be teal and the brackets natural aluminum. The last thing I'm wondering is if the puller/installer would damage the new finishes on assembly. If so I may just clean it up as a complete assembly and then tape individual areas off and paint it the correct colors.

Renting the tool for free is about as good a deal as you get. You pay a deposit and get the whole thing back when you return it. If you are friends with a guy at the parts counter I'm sure you could rent the tool when buying other parts.

Reinstalling the pulley sith the tool shouldn't hurt the finish. The Installer has a bearing that allows it to push without spinning against the pulley. You don't see the threads, so they shouldn't be a problem.
