1 Car Garage in PA

I have been lurking over the garagejournal site for some time and recently decided to join.

My fiancee and I recently purchased a townhouse in Millersville PA.

I work as a Project/Design Engineer and she is a full time college student.

We moved into our townhouse on my birthday at the end of January and the garage got put on the back burner till now.

I have been around cars and motorcycles my entire life and having a garage of my own is a great thing, even if small. I have been spoiled by my father's garage(4 bays w/ carport and office/motorcycle lift area).

Onto the garage:

When we moved in it was unpainted and have only one light in front of the garage door opener, along with one outlet by the breaker box. We added 4 lights w/100watt CFL replacement and 3 outlets.

I was able to get the track system's cheap from sam's club on closeout and the 2 cabinets cheap from ollies.

I was picked to test out LegacyIndustrial product, I am extremely excited to have a nice floor that will last!

Plans for the future include painting the concrete wall, adding some wheel racks on that wall and building some shelves under the work bench.

Your garage looks really nice. Very neat and organized. One car garages can very well serve us as shops, like you have shown in your photos. You can even have a nice woodworking area there, by storing some of the tools in another spot, and wheeling them into your bay to use them. If you do home handy work, you have a nice set up already for that. Your bench and cabinets are nice. Great space!!

Nice Helios! I have an '89 Wolfsburg but it is a regular 8v GL (get the same seat material but on craptacular base seats).

Thanks! It is a totally stripped shell right now getting ready for paint. I will be running a bike carb'd 16valve in it once finished.

How did I know before even opening this thread that you were going to be a VW guy. Seems like all the best dubs from VWVortex are in PA. Got a feeling I'll be heading that way when I'm ready to pick up another one. Either a MKI or II GTI, or another caddy. Nice garage and choice of toys.

*Edit* Just saw your sig says '89 Helios GLI, so that answers my question.

Thanks for all the comments. The 1989 Jetta GLI is a Helios, I have had it since 2007. Hoping still to have it on the road for our wedding June 11th

Nice and clean. It looks like you have a foot ofvertical storage about the garage door. That could be very useful for storing the ladder and other shallow items instead of using valuable wall space.

Love the GLI and Cabrio. Good to see another dubber on here!

Thanks for the idea! I am going to look into that. I could store the ladder and some other longer tools/roof rack items up there!

What does he drive? I know most of the local VW enthusiasts!

I have been watching your barn build, my fiancee and I plan to live here for 3-5 years and either buy an old farm or buy land. We love old buildings especially barns/carriage houses.

That is the plan eventually. I am going to make a base/stand for it and get it wired up then.

Floor Update

I pulled a car in Friday evening, no issues at all. Saturday I had to work on my daily driver so I went to town. Used small carpet squares under the jack stands and had no issues. Dropped a few tools, rolled the jack around, etc.

Floor held up great!

I am working on a way to store car cleaning supplies and rags currently. Will have updates soon!

Some guys have built cabinets shallow wall cabinets using a 2x4 frame, and a matching 2x4 frame for doors with 1x3 as shelves. The 2x4 is the perfect depth for paint cans and most aerosols/cleaners. Both the wall frame section and the doors have the same size can storage. Lots of space with limited footprint and depth.

I will be adding a hinged, fold-out worktable under my liquids cabinet. You can never have too many work surfaces.

those wall cabinets I have seen them on a website but dont remember I like the fact they are not as tall as a regular cabinet where did you get them and for how much?

Added a metal rack shelf system in the one corner, it was free and worked out great!

Trying to get it all finished up before winter hits. I am on the hunt for a hanging small electric garage heater currently. Planning to check ollies and a few other places.

BTW, I checked the Ollie's in West York for those cabinets, and they still had two of them. I really like what you have done with the place. The shelves look great!!!
