i like the funky look of the 1 different size garage door. =)

yea jack olson i think is going to like your build.
hes going to try to talk you into some floor tiles & sell you on some heavy duty metal cabinets lol nice garage! remember the jack olson trick if you decide to lay down tile...use a dark colored grout between the tiles so it will never actually look dirty. =)
Thanks Andrew....I hate paying people to do stuff that I can figure out how to do myself. No offense intended for anyone who had someone build their shop, that's just me. Plus my kids are all grown and gone, so I have the luxury of time. I really like that funky garage door too. I wasn't going to use it at first but I'm glad I did.

Jack's garage just blows my mind! If he comments on my garage + or- I'll feel as though I've won a prize

I feel your pain!! Fortunately the ground here is nice dirt for about 2 feet and then sand for about 60' so I'm told. Nary a rock. My well is a 3' dia. dug well and its never had less than 20 ft of water in it. I guess the downside is that if we ever have out earthquake, it'll turn to quicksand and I'll disappear from the face of the earth

When I lived in Seattle (Northgate area), I would get up on the 3-tab roof with an electric leaf blower for removing the moss and Douglas fir needles. It worked pretty good even though it felt like I was trying to herd cats. I'm on the coast now and have to deal with Long-leaf pine needles in the gutters (~150 l.f.). Pain in the butt!

I figured with your background, you might have the tools and skill to do some high-end artsy fartsy metal forming; I wish I had a trade besides my I.T./CAD background. You can't hold 'lines of code' in your hands and have people admire your work! lol Copper cupolas and window planters would probably sell well to the Scagit Valley Tulip Festival crowd if you get bored with retirement.

LOL..........I know all about herding cats. The main reason I changed mid-stream from HVAC to architectural metal was because, with HVAC, when you're done they cover it up and it disappears. They don't even turn the heat on 'til after you're gone. With the archi stuff I can point out things I did from Bellingham to Issaquah (and Idaho and Alaska). It's a lot more satisfying. I have and idea for hanging basket in copper. Those folks that go to the shops up in LaConner pay big bucks for that kinda crap.

Here are a couple I took the other night for the "garages at night" thread. You've probably seen them but if you haven't checked out that thread, do it! I was gonna post some interior shots but I'm on my laptop and the router signal is pretty weak for some reason. Makes Photobucket a PITA. I'll do it later when I'm in the house. It's a beautiful day here.

Here are a few of the interior. Still a LOT to dol. Insulation, sheet rock, storage etc.

Outside looking in right door

The left door

South end to North end

Same view a little closer. I've had that Craftsman box on the right since 1989.Still in good shape. The Homack I got in a trade at work. Trying to score another roller for it. That's the bathroom door.

A few more.........

The framed in room is for my "office"........12'X12'

Lighting........

Ouside looking in.....

Tunes and a little fake electric "fireplace". Should be plenty for this little room. I plan on making this room really nice. When I ran my electric and water I ran another conduit with R6 & Cat5 cables. The stereo I got when my Dad passed away. He really loved music (not the kind I like lol) so it's nice stuff.

The mini-bathroom 5'X5'. My wife came home the other day with that $39 Lowes vanity/sink deal. Works for me. The faucet I bought at a yard sale for a buck.

Thanks Scuderia, The office and the bathroom will be the first things that I can actually call "finished". I can't use the bathroom (except for gray water) until my neighbor gets back from wintering in Arizona. He's a retired septic contractor but he still does work for friends and neighbors. He replaced my entire drainfield last year for less than $600. The garage needs it's own small system cuz it's too far and down hill from the house system. We're just gonna "sneak" that in.

Thanks mrstang, The drill press I inherited from my Dad. It's an import (Jet) but at least it was made in Japan and not Chaiwan. The main thing is, it's got an excellant chuck. The file cabinet has drawers that are not as tall as a regular file cabinet so I'm not sure what it was used for. I've got air tool, power tools etc. in it. Free is good.

Thanks knucklehead (nice to be able to call someone that without it being an insult lol). The low fence was my wife's brainstorm but I really like it. Between the two of us we've knocked it down about 500 time but you just put back up and it's fine.

Be sure to cross your t' and dot your I's with the SMWIA pension. They can be a pita to work with. Because of a technicality I have to wait a couple more years for that one but I get 100% of the NW (local 66) pension. Good thing (I guess) is that I get a "raise" of about 2K a month when that kicks in.

Thanks BEAVO, A lil room is nice to have. Gotta watch those little guys. One time when my tool box was in the liittle shop I left the door open and my youngest son (he was about 4) went in there. When I returned he had all the drawers on the roller open and was working on the top box. If I hadn't caught him it could have tipped over and that would've been it. Freaked me out. I kept it locked after that.

Yeah that's a '66 post car. Replaced the floor boards and other than that it's rust free. I am a member of stevesnovasite. Great place.
